This summer when I was watching a movie, I saw a trailer for the yearly sequel of Pirates of the Caribbean. I thought to myself, are pirates still a thing? With so many other film villain tropes out there, why do we keep coming back to pirates? Well, as evident by the hordes of children adoring How I Became A Pirate at Adventure Theatre MTC, the pirates are alive and well and soaring the high seas.

Steven L. Rowe would like to give a proper background about this villain and it prompted him in writing 'Sea Road to Neverland,' (published by Archway Publishing) a novel that presents the story of the life of Hook, showing a classic figure of literature from a fresh perspective.

Pirates have always been a common type of villain in various different cultural contents. Starting from the infamous pirate that haunted young children, Captain Hook from Peter Pan to the most iconic pirate of all, Jack Sparrow from the hit movie series, Pirates of the Caribbean, pirates have been portrayed in a certain way with adjectives such as 'vicious' or 'greedy.' However THE PIRATES the musical introduces the audience to think of pirates with adjectives such as 'loving' or 'honest.' Having its first production ever, THE PIRATES had its departure of the darkness on March 10th, announcing the beginning of a new voyage.

Peter Pan is an enchanting tale that delights children of all ages. Children dream of being able to fly and to live freely, without attachments or responsibilities. With the right casting, the show is pure magic. Now onstage through August 18 at Candlelight Pavilion Dinner Theatre, Peter Pan will never grow up, thank heavens! In this case there is not a famous star attached to the role....and director John LaLonde has cast a male in the lead. A refreshing change...and, let's face it, it must work. Peter is a boy, after all. Gavin Juckette is an immmensely talented triple threat who has played the role previously on the East coast. La Londe has cast this Peter Pan very well, making it soar.

There's that saying 'Every day you live is one day closer to death.'  The opposite happened for me when by some miracle, or maybe even magic, I became younger and younger until I was young enough to think lovely thoughts and follow Peter to his Neverland at Rivertown Theaters.  PETER PAN is a show that has always been very special to me.  Whether it was my sister betting her fellow first graders that they hadn't seen the 'Mary Martin version' or learning the entirety of the shadow puppet show from 'I Gotta Crow,' this story is one that has and will forever resonate within my soul.
