10 Hairy Legs Kicks Off New York Season Tonight

Randy James' all male dance company, 10 Hairy Legs, appears at New York Live Arts tonight, June 26-28 at 7:30 pm and June 29 at 2:00 pm. Continuing the company's aggressive repertory expansion that explores the range of the male dancer, the four performances feature two programs with works by Julie Bour, David Dorfman and Dan Froot, Doug Elkins, Tiffany Mills, David Parker, Claire Porter and Randy James. Tickets are $20 for General Seating, $15 for students, seniors, artists, and New York Live Arts Members.

The Laguna Playhouse Executive and Artistic Directors, Karen Wood and Ann E. Wareham in association with Boebe Productions are thrilled to present the first show of their 2014-2015 season, BUDDY - THE BUDDY HOLLY STORY, featuring over twenty of Buddy Holly's and rock & roll's greatest hits and directed by Steve Steiner (who directed last season's smash-hit production of RING OF FIRE). "Oh Boy! To have our theatre rocking out to the songs of such greats as Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and the Big Bopper is going to be music to the ears of our audiences and subscribers this Summer," offers Wood. "We are overjoyed to be partnering with Steve Steiner and Boebe Productions again and know they are going to blow the roof off the Playhouse with this spectacular telling of one of the most enduring stories in rock & roll history,' adds Wareham. BUDDY - THE BUDDY HOLLY STORY will begin previews on Wednesday, July 9and will open on Saturday, July 12 at 7:30pm and run through Sunday, August 10, 2014 at the Laguna Playhouse, 606 Laguna Canyon Road in Laguna Beach.

Houston Symphony Announces Concert in Honor of 25th Anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall, 11/3

Today, Houston Mayor Annise D. Parker joined former Secretary of State James A. Baker, III and representatives from Rice University's Baker Institute for Public Policy, the Houston-Leipzig (Germany) Sister City Association and the Houston Symphony to announce a concert event at Jones Hall marking the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. The world-renowned Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra will kick-off a tour of the United States in Houston, Leipzig's official sister city, with a concert on Monday, November 3, presented by the Houston Symphony. The performance will include works by famous German composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach and Felix Mendelssohn, one of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra's most celebrated music directors.

Originally from the Philippines, Miguel Braganza II, Walter Terry scholar in the dance performance and choreography program at Harvard University in the '80s, and assistant to Tony Award-winning director John Dexter in the original Broadway production of 'M. Butterfly' from 1988-1990, joined the cast of the U.S. and international productions (Germany, Canada, UK, and Portugal) of Cameron Mackintosh's megamusical 'Miss Saigon' for 14 years: a feat that made him feel so blessed, and has prompted him to donate his time, talents, and resources by teaching young and up-and-coming artists, build libraries, and promote arts programs both in New York and in the Philippines to this day.

Following their critically acclaimed world premiere in December the Gelsey Kirkland Ballet returns with an evening of dance at the Peter Jay Sharp Theatre at Symphony Space (2537 Broadway on the southwest corner of 95th Street and Broadway) Friday, March 7 at 7:30PM and Saturday, March 8 at 7:30PM. This 20-member company, under the artistic direction of Gelsey Kirkland and Michael Chernov present their first mixed program including 'Raymonda Suite,' 'Leaves are Fading' Pas de Deux, 'Ballebille' from Napoli, 'Flames of Paris' Pas de Deux, 'Pas De Quatre' and 'Cavalry Halt.' As part of the shared vision that Ms. Kirkland and Mr. Chernov are attempting to fulfill with the creation of Gelsey Kirkland Ballet, Ms. Kirkland has provided her own personal touch to master works such as The Leaves are Fading, which was created on her at ABT by the renowned British choreographer Antony Tudor. The program also includes the New York premiere of Petipa's Cavalry Halt, a piece rarely viewed by US audiences.
