Theatre for a New Audience (TFANA; Jeffrey Horowitz, Founding Artistic Director) presents the New York Premiere of C.I.C.T. - Theatre du Bouffes du Nord's The Prisoner, continuing Peter Brook's 40-year-long collaboration with playwright/director Marie-Helene Estienne.  

The Bronx Museum of the Arts is pleased to announce its new exhibition and artist workspace at 80 White Street in Lower Manhattan, which will be known as The Block Gallery. The name was chosen in honor of the late Bronx Museum Executive Director Holly Block. It will welcome the first artist residents in January, 2019.

Liverpool Irish Festival (18-28 Oct) is the largest festival of Irish art and culture in the UK. POV Shorts, American Documentary's newest broadcast series, launches this week on PBS and streaming on amdoc.org. The series is one of the first on public television dedicated to independent short-form documentaries.

Dick clark productions and ABC announced an all-star lineup of soul and gospel legends who will come together to pay homage to the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, at the "2018 American Music Awards." Gladys Knight, Ledisi, Mary Mary, Donnie McClurkin and CeCe Winans, friends of the late, luminary singer/songwriter, will take the AMAs stage for a moving tribute honoring Franklin's gospel roots and iconic gospel album, "Amazing Grace." Consulting producer for the tribute is the Emmy Award®-winning music director, composer and producer Rickey Minor. Hosted by Tracee Ellis Ross, the "2018 American Music Awards," the world's largest fan-voted awards show, will broadcast live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 8:00 p.m. EDT, on ABC.

Tim Rice welcomes the re-imagining of CHESS, and uniquely encourages it. The lyricist has said he knows the musical that premiered in 1986 on the West End is problem-plagued. Continues to refer to CHESS as a work in progress, he suggests exploration and and alterations.

Cathy Weis Projects announces the fall 2018 season of Sundays on Broadway, an ongoing series of performances, film screenings, readings, and discussions on Sunday evenings at WeisAcres. The fall season is curated by Cathy Weis and guest curators Jon Kinzel, Jennifer Miller, Mina Nishimura, and Vicky Shick. All events begin at 6pm. $10 suggested donation at the door. The New York Philharmonic will present The Art of Andriessen, October 4-14, 2018, celebrating Music Director Jaap van Zweden's Dutch compatriot Louis Andriessen, the third recipient of The Marie-Josee Kravis Prize for New Music at the New York Philharmonic. 

“Dancing with the Stars” is waltzing its way into its upcoming season, and the new celebrity cast is adding some glitzy bling to their wardrobe, breaking in their dancing shoes and readying themselves for their first dance on the ballroom floor, as the season kicks off MONDAY, SEPT. 24 (8:00-10:00 p.m. EDT), on The ABC Television Network, streaming and on demand. This season's lineup of celebrity dancers includes an “American Idol” mentor, the first-ever blind contestant to take part in the show, an alumnus from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, a Duke of Hazzard, an Olympic Gold medal-winning gymnast and a Bachelor Nation favorite, among others.

As I am greeted by 'The Phantom of the Opera' producer, Karianne Jaeger, and led up through the back stage's circular stairs the atmosphere in the theatre feels very focused and concentrated. Stagehands working to fit the stage pieces in the cramped wings, technicians are lighting the ballet dancers during 'Ill Muto.' The huge chandelier (bigger than the original) is looming in the ceiling over the stalls. 'We are in great shape,' Jaeger exclaims. 'We are in the middle of the final technical rehearsals, but we are working hard to make this great production even greater. It's all in the details.'

Misty Copeland will open the 61st annual Dance Magazine Awards. The evening will honor Ronald K. Brown, Lourdes Lopez(presented by Darren Walker), Crystal Pite, and Michael Trusnovec (presented by Patrick Corbin). A special Leadership Award will be presented to Nigel Redden. Since 1954 the Dance Magazine Awards have recognized outstanding men and women whose contributions have left a lasting impact on dance. This year's Awards will take place on Monday December 3, 2018 at The Ailey Citigroup Theater at 7:30pm.

The Paul Taylor Dance Foundation announced the death yesterday of legendary choreographer Paul Taylor in Manhattan on August 29.
