Sometimes it seems there is so much theater happening that it's difficult to keep track of it all. From personal experience, despite all the datebooks, smart phones, tablets, desktop computers and laptops...it's hard to keep everything straight in this wacky business of the show.

The wildly popular musical, A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder will be at The Memphis Orpheum February 9 - 14th. This daring, dark comedy hails from Roy Horniman's 1907 novel, Israel Rank: The Autobiography of a Criminal, told through the eyes of a man who bumps off the aristocrats standing in the way of his title. In 1949, the book was loosely adapted into the movie, 'Kind Hearts and Coronets' which starred Dennis Price, Joan Greenwood, Valerie Hobson, and Alec Guinness. In 2014, Robert Freedman and Steven Lutvak set the story to music. It has been nabbing awards and slaying audiences ever since.

Trumpets ('The Bluebird of Happiness,' 'Joseph the Dreamer') premieres its latest full-length play 'The Horse and His Boy,' which is based on 'Chronicles of Narnia's' fifth fantasy novel of the same name by British novelist C.S. Lewis, on Friday, November 6, at Meralco Theatre in Manila, Philippines.

Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts launches its 2015-2016 season.

Staged by the Department of Drama (SU Drama) in Syracuse University's College of Visual and Performing Arts (SU: VPA), Kiss Me, Kate performs October 2-10 in the Archbold Theater at the Syracuse Stage/Drama Theater Complex, 820 East Genesee Street. Sir Bruce Forsyth, one of the UK's best loved stars and entertainers, is today announced as the host who will interview American showbiz legend Liza Minnelli on stage in the West End in An Evening With Liza Minneli.

Some stories are best discovered after the fact. In the case of Sister Gregory of Rosary College, her story and hard work helped create one of the biggest musiclas of a generation, The Sound of Music. According to the Library of Congress, some letters were discovered that were written by Sister Gregory of Rosary College and included correspondances between Sister Gregory and the creators of the 1959 musical The Sound of Music.

In an unprecedented collaboration, the Louis Armstrong House Museum in New York City and the Louisiana State Museum in New Orleans have partnered on the exhibit: Satchmo: His Life in New Orleans to tell the story of Louis Armstrong's complex relationship with his hometown. The exhibit will coincide with the 100th anniversary of his first professional gig at Henry Ponce's in New Orleans in 1915. 

Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts announces upcoming shows and series confirmed to date for the 2015-2016 season.  The Dr. Phillips Center's anchor season of Broadway Across America and the resident companies of the Orlando Ballet and the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra will be joined by new series and festivals including the Morgan Stanley Jazz at Dr. Phillips Center subscription series, a Flamenco festival and a Chefs at the Dr. Phillips Center series.

It is also with great anticipation that Richmond Ballet prepares to welcome two principal dancers from the National Ballet of China, Wang Ye and Ma Xiaodong who are scheduled to perform the ballet's lead roles. Ms. Wang and Mr. Ma's guest artist appearance in Richmond is the first stop in the Ballet's year-long Road to China cultural exchange program that will carry the company through to a tour of China in May of this year.

The 18th Long Island Al Jolson Festival coming up on August 16 is a whole-day affair featuring film presentations, lectures, memorabilia displays and sales, and a performance--'The Heart of Al Jolson'--by singer and Staten Island native Tony Babino (photo below), who can sing Jolson songs like, well, you ain't heard nothin' yet. The other day, like clockwork, I received my yearly invitation to attend from Oceanside, LI resident Jan Hernstat, who for the past 10 years has been the President of the 62-year-old International Al Jolson Society (which was formed in early 1950, a few months before Jolson died), an organization with a worldwide membership hovering around 1,000. I am proud to say that for 30 years, I've been one of them. I'm even prouder to say that I've been an Al Jolson fanatic for much longer. Here's my story about how it happened.

Reagle Music Theatre of Greater Boston announces a trio of Tony Award-winning musicals for its 46th consecutive summer season at the Robinson Theatre (617 Lexington St. Waltham, MA, 02452). South Pacific, the Rodgers and Hammerstein masterpiece about love and stereotypes set against the backdrop of a lush tropical island during WWII, opens the season June 12-22. Me and My Girl, the joyously funny story of an unrefined cockney gent who must choose between love or money, runs July 10-20. The season closes with a drenching revival of Reagle's IRNE-award winning production of Singin' in the Rain from August 7-17.
