'World Cup Mouse' by Richard Seidman is Released
by Christina Mancuso - May 12, 2014

'Where there's a mouse there's a way' Soccer-playing mouse has ambitious dreams in 'World Cup Mouse,' a new book for 7 to 10 year-olds by Richard Seidman. 'Where there's a mouse, there's a way,' says Louie LaSurie. But it will take more than lofty words for Louie to achieve his goal: to be the first mouse to play for France in the World Cup soccer tournament. 'World Cup Mouse' is a comic, action-filled tale of friendship and pursuing one's dream even when it seems impossible. For example, how can Louie ever manage to kick a human-sized soccer ball and not just the dried pea with which he has been practicing? How can he avoid getting squished by the thrashing feet of the giant humans? And can he overcome his own self-doubts and fiery temper? Aided by his best friend, François, and the human girl, Rose, Louie gives it his best shot. 'World Cup Mouse' is written by Richard Seidman and illustrated by Ursula Andrejczuk. 'I love the humor and absurdity of Louie's aspiration,' Seidman says, 'and at the same time I admire his crazy determination and chutzpah. He inspires me, even as he makes me laugh.' US Olympic and World Cup champion, Brandi Chastain, wrote, 'My seven-year old soccer-playing son loved 'World Cup Mouse!' This book is great for kids and parents to read together.' 'World Cup Mouse' will be published on May 20th, just in time for the 2014 World Cup tournament that begins in June in Brazil. It will be available in print, ebook, and audio book formats. Seidman will contribute a percentage of the profits of each book sold to organizations that support youth soccer around the world and to Friends of Trees, the nonprofit organization he founded in Portland in 1989. On Saturday, May 24th at 11 am, Seidman will celebrate the launch of 'World Cup Mouse' at Tree House Books, on the Ashland Plaza at 15 N. Main Street. Richard Seidman lives in Ashland, Oregon where he writes books for children and adults. For more information, go to www.worldcupmouse.com.

Bookworks' IT'S ABOUT BOOKS For January
by BWW News Desk - Jan 31, 2014

Without a doubt Alexandra Fuller is one of my most favorite authors. Her first book, Don't Let's Go to the Dogs Tonight, is a delightfully funny yet poignant backward look at her childhood in Africa. The latest,Cocktail Hour Under the Tree of Forgetfulness, is, at first glance a charming, delightfully funny account of her mother's life as a child when she was growing up in Africa. Fuller never loses her sense of humor and there are numerous chuckle out loud moments where she uses her mother's own words to paint for us an undeniably brilliant picture of just who her mother is and what is important to her.
