On Wednesday, May 10, Sierra Stages and the Miners Foundry present a reading of "THE LARAMIE PROJECT" as part of "Theater By The Book," a series of informal play readings for the community. Written by Moises Kaufman and the Members of the Tectonic Theater Project and directed by Sharon Winegar, "THE LARAMIE PROJECT" is the deeply moving reaction to the 1998 murder of university student Matthew Shepard outside of Laramie, Wyoming.

The Theatre Group at SBCC is excited to announce the 2017-2018 season of plays.  We open the season July 14-29, 2017 in the Garvin Theatre with the sparkling musical, HIGH SOCIETY , music and lyrics by Cole Porter, book by Arthur Kopit, based on the play The Philadelphia Story by Philip Barry.

The current state of criminal justice and incarceration in Illinois will be discussed following two performances of Not About Nightingales - the play Tennessee Williams wrote in response to a real-life 1938 atrocity in which four inmates of a Philadelphia prison were literally roasted to death.

Walnut Street Theatre concludes its landmark 208th season with an exciting musical inspired by the 1977 film that became a cultural phenomenon, SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER. Directed and choreographed by Richard Stafford, this high energy musical begins previews on May 16th, opens on May 24th and runs through July 16th on the WST Mainstage.

The Cultural Council of Palm Beach County has added six new members to its board of directors and has appointed global finance expert Nathan Slack as Chair. William Parmelee has been named Vice Chair, and Jean Sharf is now Secretary. School Board of Palm Beach County member Debra Robinson and Boca Raton Resort & Club President and Managing Director John Tolbert, have joined as ex-officio board members.

Meany Center for the Performing Arts at the University of Washington announces its 2017-2018 Season, presenting 25 international artists and ensembles representing 14 countries and cultures, including Mali, Cuba, Macedonia, Iran, Armenia, Israel, Great Britain, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Taiwan, Hungary, Spain and the USA.

After 25 years at the helm, Carey Perloff, artistic director at American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.), announced today that she will be departing the Bay Area's premier nonprofit theater organization following the conclusion of the 2017-18 season.

Co-directed with precision by Christina A. Coakley and Susan Marie Rhea, Keegan's PARADE keeps the staging simple and imaginative, cutting away clutter and using only the barest of props and scenic elements to help the story unfold. No one who has seen previous Keegan musicals, such as HAIR, CABARET, or AMERICAN IDIOT could be surprised by the quality of this rendering of PARADE; I fully expect this production to be recognized multiple times when the next round of Helen Hayes Awards comes around.

Rubicon Theatre Company celebrates Black History Month with THE DEVIL'S MUSIC: THE LIFE AND BLUES OF BESSIE SMITH, starring singer and actress Miche Braden of the original Off-Broadway production (named one of the 10 Best Off-Broadway productions of the year by the N.Y.
