Given the incredible talent in this town and the large number of daring, courageous theater groups in the Austin area, here are my picks for 13 musicals that I'd love to see produced in the 2013-2014 season.

Sundance Institute announced today 19 members of five juries awarding prizes at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, January 17-27 in Park City, Salt Lake City, Ogden and Sundance, Utah. Short Film Awards will be announced at a ceremony on January 22 at Park City's Jupiter Bowl, with feature film awards announced at a separate ceremony on January 26.

The Old Globe will open its 2013-14 Season with the world premiere of The Honeymooners, a new musical based on the legendary CBS television series. 2012 Tony Award winner Michael McGrath (Nice Work If You Can Get It) will star as Ralph Kramden, the small-time bus driver with big-time dreams. Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell (Kinky Boots, Legally Blonde) will direct and choreograph the musical comedy, with book by Dusty Kay and Bill Nuss, music by Stephen Weiner and lyrics by Peter Mills.

Labyrinth Theater Company, the award-winning, downtown ensemble previously announced the complete cast and creative team for their World Premiere production of Radiance, written by Cusi Cram and directed by Suzanne Agins. The complete cast of the upcoming production of Radiance includes Kelly AuCoin (Julius Caesar, Julie & Julia) and Ana Reeder (Top Girls, Sight Unseen), as well as Labyrinth Company Members Kohl Sudduth (The Last Days of Judas Iscariot, Take Me Out) and Aaron Roman Weiner (Thinner Than Water, The Glass Menagerie).

Balagan Theatre has announced their 2012-2013 season, which includes Avenue Q, winner of the Tony® Award "Triple Crown"; Hedwig and the Angry Inch, featuring rising musical theatre star Jerick Hoffer (also known as drag cabaret chanteuse Jinkx Monsoon); August: Osage County, recipient of the 2008 Pulitzer Prize for Drama; and a musical to be announced at the Season Preview Party, Saturday, June 23, at 8 p.m.

The official opening night for Polly Draper in MY BRILLIANT DIVORCE, took place last Saturday night at Bay Street Theatre. Geraldine Aron, the playwright for this American Premiere attended the after party in the lobby along with other theatre veterans including Blythe Danner, TEd Hartley and Dina Merrill, John McDaniel, Terrence McNally, Joe Pintauro, Mercedes Ruehl, Sloan Shelton, and Harris Yulin. The show runs now through Sunday, June 24. The production is directed by Matt McGrath, one of Bay Street Theatre's Artistic Associates.

Bay Street Theatre has announced the first production of the 2012 Mainstage Season. Polly Draper stars in MY BRILLIANT DIVORCE, by Geraldine Aron. This American Premiere begins Tuesday, May 29 and runs through Sunday, June 24. The production is directed by Matt McGrath, one of Bay Street's Artistic Associates. The Old Globe's 2012-13 Season will feature the World Premieres of two new musicals: Allegiance - A New American Musical by Jay Kuo and Lorenzo Thione and A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder by Robert L. Freedman and Steven Lutvak. The season also includes George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion in celebration of the classic play's 100th anniversary and the World Premiere of a new adaptation of Henrik Ibsen's A Doll's House by Anne-Charlotte Hanes Harvey and Kirsten Brandt. Two recent Broadway hits will make their San Diego debuts at the Globe: David Lindsay-Abaire's Good People and Jon Robin Baitz's Other Desert Cities. Rounding out the season are the West Coast Premiere of Bekah Brunstetter's Be a Good Little Widow and the Southern California Premiere of Tarell Alvin McCraney's The Brothers Size.

Infinite Abyss Productions, in association with Empire Stage, to announced it is premiering its first original play, Snow White Trash, in January 2012. Snow White Trash was written by Infinite Abyss principals Erynn Dalton (Producer) and Jeffrey D. Holmes (Artistic Director). According to Dalton, Snow White Trash is “A campy take on the classic Snow White fairytale, like the Fractured Fairy Tales shown after each Rocky and Bullwinkle episode in the 1960s, but naughtier. Jeff and I have always been big fans of camp, Charles Busch style, and thought it was time to get Snow out there!
