When the 1920s crooner heartthrob Rudy Vallee made his return to Broadway in the 1961 original production of How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying, he wasn't exactly known as an actor, and certainly not known as a comedian who might excel in a scalding satire of the ups and downs of the corporate ladder. So when director Abe Burrows guided him through the role of J.B. Biggley, the feared and revered President of World-Wide Wickets, he gave him specific instructs... don't be funny. Since the brilliant comic scribe Burrows was also writing the book for How To Succeed... (starting from Jack Weinstock and Willie Gilbert's straight play draft) he knew exactly how to surround the star with daffy characters and plant him into silly situations while keeping him obliviously normal. By not really giving a performance, but by being Rudy Vallee saying lines and singing songs, the used-to-be has-been had audiences rolling with laughter.

If you have heard of Blue Man Group or experienced one of their previous productions or tours, you know how unique and exciting their world famous productions can be. Filled with experiences that defy categorization, Blue Man Group is best known for multi-media performances that feature three bald and blue characters who take the audience on a journey that is funny, intelligent and visually stunning. When the latest tour arrives at the Fabulous Fox Theatre January 18 - 23, however, Atlanta audiences, even those who have experienced the Blue phenomenon, are in for something new and exciting. Featuring classic moments and brand new content, this first theatrical production to tour North America is sure to please. The "Blue Men" are usually men of few (or more accurately, no) words, but I got one of them, Kalen Allmandinger, a veteran Blue Man, to speak long enough to tell me a little about himself, this exciting new production and why audiences of all ages are in for a real treat.

What is Hanukkah... or Chanukkah? How do you really spell it, anyway? What's it ever done for me and why should I care? Hash it out (a nice lean kosher hash) with our hosts Marc and Doug for a unique evening of fun and music and story telling. We'll share, we'll kibitz, we'll have a little something to eat! Sure, go see A CHRISTMAS CAROL, (we're going to be on their set... how ironic if that?) but do yourself a favor and spend a little time this year spinning the dreidel with Marc and Doug. Who knows, maybe we'll even learn something about all this holiday mishagas. Maybe, maybe not... you put 3 Jews in a room together you get 5 different opinions. So...what can I tell you, we'll see what happens, but even if we don't solve any baffling Jewish mysteries...we'll have a lot of fun not getting anywhere together. Oy! Did we mention that we'll have a little nosh?
