Tommy Bahama Opens 'Manhattan Island' On Fifth Avenue NYC Today

Tommy Bahama, the island-inspired lifestyle brand will open its first global flagship store located at 551 Fifth Avenue in New York. The store is the largest Tommy Bahama retail location worldwide and features a 5,000-square-foot store featuring men's and women's apparel, swimwear, footwear, accessories and home decor, the 1,300 square-foot Marlin Bar, the only free-standing bar between the Empire State Building and Central Park, as well as a 6,700-square-foot Tommy Bahama Restaurant and Bar, located on the second floor. The retail store opens today, November 17, followed by The Tommy Bahama Restaurant and Bar, in early December which was delayed due to the after effects of Hurricane Sandy.

University of Cincinnati CCM Kicks Off Yearlong Kurt Weill Festival, Oct 19

Beginning this month, the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) will celebrate the iconic work and enduring legacy of composer Kurt Weill with an unprecedented series of events. Opening on Friday, Oct. 19, and running through Tuesday, March 12, CCM's Kurt Weill Festival will incorporate the renowned theatre composer into a broad range of both public performances and classroom exercises.

The countdown to Profiles in History's July auction begins. Run by Joe Maddalena, Profiles in History has announced that costumes from Whitney Houston, Britney Spears and Jennifer Lopez will be in attendance. Taking place in Los Angeles, The Dreier Collection will be auctioned off today, July 28th, the Animation Auction will be July 29th and the Treasures from the Hollywood Vaults auction has been moved to July 30th and July 31st.

Happy Birthday Al Jolson! Between 1911 and 1928, Jolson had nine sell-out Winter Garden shows in a row, more than 80 hit records, and 16 national and international tours. Although he's best remembered today as the star in the first (full length) talking movie, The Jazz Singer in 1927, he later starred in a series of successful musical films throughout the 1930s. After a period of inactivity, his stardom returned with the 1946 Oscar-winning biographical film, The Jolson Story. His Broadway credits include: Hold on to Your Hats, The Wonder Bar, Big Boy, Artists and Models, Bombo, and many more.

Encompass New Opera Theatre will present two one-act operas based on texts by Stein, Virgil Thomson's Capital Capitals and Ned Rorem's Three Sisters Who Are Not Sisters. Directed by Nancy Rhodes, this salute to Stein's work through American opera is a fresh examination of the influence Stein has had throughout the arts.
