New Children's Book by Arlene Brown is Released
by Christina Mancuso - Oct 14, 2016

A stunning wedding collar made from luxurious leather and diamonds has gone missing, and it's up to a doggie detective duo to find out what happened before the special event is ruined. They're under the gun because they only have three days to do so. A new children's book released by Dog Ear Publishing follows the story of the canine sleuths who are on the case. When Monique Potter, a poodle, discovers her collar missing from her nightstand, she can't stop crying because she hoped to wear it during her wedding three days later. Although her parents call the German shepherd police, they also place a call to a special detective agency run by Bradley and Mr. Quick, dogs who they hope can find the stolen collar quickly. The detectives - and the police - don't know the necklace was taken by Dollar and his partner Cash, who had been engaged to Monique until she broke it off to become acquainted with Edward, who she said 'Yes' to a year later. Cash claims he took the collar just to tell Monique to delay her wedding, but once a con dog, always a con dog. Can Bradley and Mr. Quick find the collar in time or will the Potters be forced to delay the ceremony their daughter has always dreamed of? 'Bradley and Mr. Quick the Canine Duo: In Search of the Wedding Collar,' a short chapter book, is full of colorful canine characters from an eavesdropping alley cat to beautiful waitresses, impatient fathers and crusty bulldog witnesses. Readers step into the world of doggie detectives with a front-row seat to the action and adventure. Author Arlene Brown has been interested in writing since 1987 but life and time were not on her side until her retirement in 2010. She worked for Horizon Air starting in 1998 as a special service agent, dispatcher for the special service team, on the floor and as a baggage handler and handling aircrafts. Brown received training in writing television and radio ads starting in 1991 at the Connecticut School of Broadcasting in Bellevue, Wash., as well as training for voiceover work and being a disc jockey. She worked on her portfolio of commercials and edited and prepared manuscripts for writers in Seattle before joining the airline. Brown is looking forward to writing now that she has the time to do so. BWW Review: THE WEDDING SINGER at Theatre Three
by Kyle Christopher West - Sep 28, 2016

No matter what year you were born, you've probably teased your hair and belted out every word to 'Livin' On A Prayer,' or 'Don't Stop Believing' at some point in your life. The 1980's are celebrated as a never-ending pop music party that everyone seems to remember fondly - including the younger generation who wasn't even around for it! When Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore fell in love onscreen in the 80's-themed 1998 film THE WEDDING SINGER, a comedic classic was born, eventually becoming inspiration to a Broadway musical of the same name in 2006. Although the stage version never quite captured audiences or critics like the movie did (perhaps they were 'Too Shy' to pay $111.25 for the blast-from-the-past?), the show was overall well received by audiences. Now, Dallas' theatre-in-the-round, Theatre Three, brings the 'Me decade' to the stage in THE WEDDING SINGER and providing a lot of upbeat, fluffy fun.

BWW Interview: Enrique Cruz DeJesus Paints The Future and Honors The Past
by Juan Michael Porter II - Jul 28, 2016

There may be 'no second acts in American lives' - thank you, Fitzgerald - and yet Enrique Cruz DeJesus has lived so many exciting chapters that seven or eight books could be devoted to his journey. Mr. DeJesus has been the Artistic Director and Resident Choreographer of Alpha Omega Theatrical Dance Company since 1998, inheriting directorship of this nearly 45 years old company from Andy Torres during a time when the future was anything but certain. Having led a successful concert dance career - that saw him working with Eleo Pomare, Talley Beatty, Gary Deloatch, Martial Roumain and George Faison - Mr. DeJesus transitioned in to a highly successful theatre career with his stage debut at Shakespeare in the Park's production of 'Measure for Measure' under the direction of George C. Wolfe.

BWW Review: The Con is On with DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS at Musical Theatre West
by Michael L. Quintos - Jul 20, 2016

The con is on! With plenty of wit, charm, and double entendres galore, Musical Theatre West's new regional production of the 2004 Broadway musical comedy 'DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS' is one enjoyably silly romp. The show which features a book by Jeffrey Lane and music and lyrics by David Yazbeck continues its final weekend at the Carpenter Center for the Performing Arts in Long Beach through July 24. Based on the 1998 film comedy starring Steve Martin and Michael Caine, the stage adaptation eventually garnered 11 Tony nominations during its run. For MTW's fun new local revival, the title roles---a couple of con men who've taken to swindling the riches off of easily-seduced women in the French Riviera---are embodied by stage vets Davis Gaines (now a multiple fixture at MTW) and the incredibly funny Benjamin Schrader (The Book of Mormon).
