The 'Pope of Trash' will put the 'X' back in X'mas with a rapid-fire monologue that explores, explodes and exploits traditional holiday customs, with Waters sharing his compulsions, desires and stories, including his urge to give and receive inappropriate gifts, a religious fanaticism for Santa Claus, and an unhealthy love of true crime holiday horror stories. The performance says Waters, 'will hopefully make you feel better when the Christmas season is making you mental.' At a press conference yesterday the Oregon Shakespeare Festival provided a comprehensive picture of the scope of new work underway over the next several season supported by grants totaling more than $800,000. OSF recently received a grant of $600,000 from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation over three years (2010-2012) for the decade-long commissioning, production, and public dialogue initiative American Revolutions: the United States History Cycle. The Edgerton Foundation of Los Angeles, California awarded OSF a four-year $200,000 grant to support the commissioning of five new American musicals, putting OSF in the unique position of creating new American musicals with a resident acting company.

In his second week with the New York Philharmonic this season, David Robertson will lead the Orchestra in Ravel's Mother Goose Suite, Barber's Violin Concerto, with Gil Shaham as soloist, and Bartók's The Wooden Prince (complete, with surtitles to indicate story line). The concerts will take place Thursday, February 25, 2010, at 7:30 p.m., Friday, February 26, at 11:00 a.m., and Saturday, February 27 at 8:00 p.m.
