AOP Presents COMPOSERS & THE VOICE, 3/15

American Opera Projects (AOP) announces the return of its popularComposers & the Voice program for its 2017-19 seasons. Created and led by Composers & the Voice Artistic Director Steven Osgood, eight composers and librettists will be selected for two-year fellowships to learn the fundamentals of writing for the voice and opera stage. Workshop sessions with professional opera singers, mentors, and instructors are held at AOP's home base in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. Applications and complete information will be available beginning March 15 atwww.aopopera.org/composers_voice. The deadline for applications is April 28 with fellowships announced by July 1.

WICKED, the West End musical phenomenon that tells the incredible untold story of the Witches of Oz, has been named 'Best West End Show' by theatregoers for a third time at the WhatsOnStage Awards, tied with Les Miserables. The 17th Annual WhatsOnStage Awards were presented tonight (Sunday 19 February 2017) and marked the long-running hit musical's 10th WhatsOnStage Award win(which include 'Best New Musical' in 2007 and 'Best West End Show' in both 2010 and 2011).

SDMT will also present the World Premiere of Miracle on 34th Street: A Live Musical Radio Play directed by Colleen Kollar Smith, adapted by Lance Arthur Smith, with original music by Jon Lorenz. Miracle on 34th Street runs December 1st - 23rd at the Horton Grand Theatre, with press opening on Thursday, December 8th.
