After BroadwayWorld launched its New York Cabaret Awards in 2012, the cabaret section's editors realized that the selected categories and the popular vote nature of the election didn't adequately recognize some great performances and shows for that particular year. So in 2013, BWW added "Editor's Choice Awards" to the mix to not only reward special performances but also to acknowledge people who have helped grow cabaret and foster the spirit of the art form. This year, BWW New York Cabaret Editor Stephen Hanks and his reviewing staff-including Alix Cohen, David Clarke, Billie Roe, Rembert Block, and John Hoglund-selected seven stars of cabaret for this special honor. Now that the Awards for 2015 performances and shows are official, we wanted to tell you a bit about this year's "Editor's Choice Award" winners and offer them a chance to thank the New York cabaret community. Congratulations to all these worthy Award recipients.

Cutting Ball Theater continues its 17th season with the World Premiere of ONDINE by Katharine Sherman. Cutting Ball founding Artistic Director Rob Melrose helms this beautifully tragic dream, featuring Molly Benson, Marilet Martinez, Danielle O'Hare, Kenny Toll, and Jessica Waldman. English Touring Theatre return to the Exeter Northcott Theatre at the end of November (tonight 24-28 Nov 2015), this time with THE ODYSSEY: MISSING PRESUMED DEAD, their acclaimed collaboration with Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse. The production reunites Simon Armitage and Nick Bagnall after their recent collaborations on The Last Days of Troy and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight.

Developed over the last year with Music Director and 2015-2016 Dramatists Guild Fellow Brandon James Gwinn, the show focuses on the detective work of one woman's determination to verify the believed genetic history of her family.  Featuring the music of Bonnie Raitt, Rhianna, AC/DC, Paloma Faith, beloved show tunes and standards.

Entering its seventh season in 2015-16, CONTACT!, the Philharmonic's new-music series, will extend its reach across New York City through a new partnership with National Sawdust (formerly Original Music Workshop), a new, non-profit, state-of-the-art music venue opening in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, in October 2015.

Toronto – Emily D'Angelo of Toronto took home First Prize (the Chair's Prize) at the Canadian Opera Company's annual Ensemble Studio Competition on November 3, 2015 at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts. The competition is the feature event of the COC fundraiser Centre Stage, a highly anticipated annual celebration of the next generation of opera stars. D'Angelo was selected from eight finalists to receive the $5,000 award, supported annually by the Chair of the COC's Board of Directors. Lauren Eberwein of Qualicum Beach, BC won the Second Prize of $3,000, and Bruno Roy of Montreal was awarded the Third Prize of $1,500. Emily D'Angelo was also selected by the audience as the winner of the Audience Choice Award, worth $1,500.
