Miller Theatre at Columbia University School of the Arts continues the 2014-15 Composer Portraits series with Bernard Rands. The 80th Birthday tribute features Anthony Roth Costanzo, countertenor, the International Contemporary Ensemble - Christian Knapp, conductor, and the New York premiere of Rands' FOLK SONGS (2014) tonight, November 13, 2014 at 8 pm at the Miller Theatre at Columbia University (2960 Broadway at 116th Street).

The South Florida Theatre League's Remy awards, named in honor of Remberto Cabrera, the former Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs' Senior Cultural Administrator and Chief of Cultural Development, are given annually for Outstanding Service, and for Pioneering in South Florida regional theatre.

Gurinder Chadha will direct the world premiere of the new British stage musical Bend It Like Beckham. With original music by Howard Goodall and lyrics by Charles Hart, Bend It Like Beckham has a new book by Paul Mayeda Berges and Gurinder Chadha; choreography and musical staging by Aletta Collins; set design by Miriam Buether; costume design by Katrina Lindsay; lighting design by Neil Austin; sound design by Richard Brooker; musical direction by Nigel Lilley and orchestrations by Howard Goodalland Kuljit Bhamra. 'EAST HAMPTON, LAST SUMMER,' a new comedy with music by award-winning playwright Tony Finstrom, will be presented as a Staged Reading for one night only, at 7:30 PM on Monday, November 3rd, 2014, in Lynn University's Wold Performing Arts Center, as part of Jan McArt's New Play Reading Series.

At least four plays have been written about Florence Foster Jenkins, who in the 30s and 40s, in spite of being considered the worst singer ever, recorded and gave highly publicized annual SRO concerts including one in 1944 at... Carnegie Hall. A rank amateur, Jenkins had no pitch, tone or rhythm and decimated just about every note and lyric in every score she put her voice to. BUT, she had a dream and she loved music with a passion. In her head and heart, she sounded like one of the most gorgeous sopranos that ever graced a stage. Maybe she really knew she was tone deaf and couldn't hit the mark... or maybe she didn't. If we cannot get our hands on one of her recordings, we can only estimate the truth of the matter by what we read or see in the various plays about her life.

New York City Center's 11th annual Fall for Dance Festival will feature free performances in Central Park and 24 acclaimed dance companies and artists from around the world, in six unique programs in September and October 2014.
