NY Philharmonic to Give First Performance of Toscanini's 1951 Arrangement of STAR SPANGLED BANNER, 7/4 - 7/6

The New York Philharmonic will give the first performances of a new edition of Arturo Toscanini's 1951 arrangement of "The Star-Spangled Banner" during several summer concerts taking place throughout July.

New Version of Tobias Picker's Opera AN AMERICAN TRAGEDY Receives World Premiere at the 2014 Glimmerglass Festival, 7/20

The Glimmerglass Festival presents the premiere of a new version of An American Tragedy, which was originally commissioned by and premiered at the Metropolitan Opera in 2005, by composer Tobias Picker and librettist Gene Scheer on Sunday, July 20 at 1:30 p.m., with subsequent performances through Sunday, August 24. One hour prior to the opening performance and other matinee performances, Mr. Picker will preview his work in a free discussion at the Preview Pavilion next to the performance venue. The production is directed by Peter Kazaras and conducted by George Manahan, and the cast features Glimmerglass's 2014 Young Artists. Tickets range from $10-$144 and can be purchased by calling the box office at(607) 547-2255 or online at glimmerglass.org.

Mint Theater to Stage Revival of George Kelly's THE FATAL WEAKNESS, 8/19-10/12

Mint Theater's next production will be The Fatal Weakness by George Kelly. Jesse Marchese directs a cast that features Cliff Bemis, Cynthia Darlow, Kristin Griffith, Sean Patrick Hopkins, Patricia Kilgarriff, and Victoria Mack. The Fatal Weakness will have scenic design Vicki R. Davis, costume design by Andrea Varga, lighting design by Christian DeAngelis, original music & sound design by Jane Shaw, and properties design by Joshua Yocom. Performances will begin Tuesday August 19th and continue through October 12th. Opening Night is set for Monday September 15th (7pm) at Mint's home (311 West 43rd Street, just west of 8th Avenue).

Westport Country Playhouse Awarded Fairfield County Community Foundation Grant

Westport Country Playhouse has received a $20,000 grant from the Fairfield County Community Foundation for general operating support of the non-profit organization's 2014 season. The nationally recognized professional theater serves an estimated annual audience of 60,000.

This is the American premiere of John Van Druten's "rivetingly entertaining" (The Guardian) romantic drama, which opened Monday February 24th. Davis McCallum, who staged the 2012 Pulitzer-Prize winning play Water by the Spoonful at Second Stage, as well as the award-winning production of The Whale at Playwrights Horizons, directs.

The American-Scandinavian Foundation is pleased to present Kathryn Roszak's San Francisco-based Danse Lumiere in the New York premiere of 'Secrets on the Way,' a dance noir inspired by the poetry of Swedish poet Tomas Transtromer, winner of the 2011 Nobel Prize, Monday April 7th at 8 PM at New York's Scandinavia House, 58 Park Avenue (between 37th & 38th Streets). A fusion of dance, theater and poetry, 'Secrets on the Way' was created and choreographed by Kathryn Roszak for six dancers and a narrator. Actor Earll Kingston will read several Transtromer poems in English translations by Robert Bly and May Swenson.
