Uptown Players Announce Their 2010 Season And Capital Campaign Updates

Uptown Players, a professional theatre group located in the Uptown/Oak Lawn area of Dallas, has announced its 2010 season, which will feature the United States premiere of Closer to Heaven, regional premieres of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Regrets Only, as well as the recent Broadway hit Equus and the hysterical musical revue Forbidden Broadway's Greatest Hits.

Baby It's You!, a new musical, will have its world premiere at The Coast Playhouse (8325 Santa Monica Blvd. in West Hollywood) with performances from July 18 ? August 30. American Pop Anthology (co-producers of the musical Million Dollar Quartet, still running in Chicago after nine months, and heading for Broadway) will present the new musical written by Colin Escott (Million Dollar Quartet) and Floyd Mutrux (Million Dollar Quartet and the award-winning film American Hot Wax). Directed by Mutrux, Baby It's You! is about the passion and determination of New Jersey housewife Florence Greenberg, who in the 1960?s built one of the most successful-ever independent record companies with such discoveries like The Shirelles and found forbidden love.

Strawdog Theatre Co. Presents 'Why We Fight' Themed 22nd Season

Strawdog Theatre Company of Chicago announces their 22nd anniversary season of presenting 'the whole wide world in a little black box,' with the three mainstage plays focusing on the theme of 'why we fight': the Midwest premiere of Matt Pepper's 'St. Crispin's Day,' David Harrower's translation of Bertolt Brecht's 'Good Soul of Szechuan,' and Curt Columbus' translation of Anton Chekhov's 'Uncle Vanya.' The shows run Fridays at 8 p.m., Saturdays at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m., and Sundays at 7 p.m.

BC/EFA's Broadway Bears XII Raises $152,116

Broadway lovers and teddy bear collectors came together on Sunday, February 15, at the BROADWAY BEARS XII auction, which raised a grand total of $152,116! The event was hosted by Bryan Batt with Lorna Kelly reprising her role as auctioneer. Forty specially made BROADWAY BEARS ? each dressed in original, handmade costumes representing the theater?s most legendary characters - were auctioned to the highest bidder in support of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. Last year?s BROADWAY BEARS raised $130,878 and the grand total for all 12 Broadway Bears auctions is $1,644,077.18 with over 500 bears auctioned.
