Boston Ballet's spring season kicks off with Mikko Nissinen's Swan Lake, back by popular demand after a record-breaking world premiere in October 2014.

Dead Writers Theatre Collective opens its 2016 season with a clear look back at the Oscar Wilde classic, The Importance of Being Earnest. It opens July 1 at The Athenaeum Theatre. "It's the perfect choice to launch our 'Mad About The Boy' theme," states Collective Artistic Director Jim Schneider. "We're celebrating the good and bad side of love - all kinds of love. Our other two shows include a cabaret style production of Noel Coward's sophisticated work in Oh, Coward! and a dramatic look at tragic love with The Heiress. All three shows will be considered for a Jeff Award Recommendation."

April 12, 2016 (BOSTON, MA)—Boston Ballet's spring season kicks off with Mikko Nissinen's Swan Lake, back by popular demand after a record-breaking world premiere in October 2014. Described by Robert Greskovic of The Wall Street Journal as “artful” and “luminous,” the timeless classical masterpiece features choreography by Artistic Director Mikko Nissinen after Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov and costumes and sets by award-winning designer Robert Perdziola. Boston Ballet welcomes Gonzalo Garcia, principal dancer with New York City Ballet (NYCB), as a guest artist. He will perform Prince Siegfried with Boston Ballet principal dancer Misa Kuranaga on April 29 and 30. Mikko Nissinen's Swan Lake runs April 29–May 26 at The Boston Opera House. Due to the high-ticket demand, an additional performance has been added on May 25 at 7:30 pm.

This summer marks another historic milestone for the annual Bard SummerScape festival. For the first time since its founding, this season's focus is on the music and culture of Italy, with seven weeks of music, opera,theater, dance, film, and cabaret keyed to the theme of the 27th Bard Music Festival, "Puccini and His World." This intensive examination of the life and times of Giacomo Puccini opens a window onto Italy's rich musical heritage from Palestrina to Menotti, by way of the most popular and successful - yet, paradoxically, frequently critically underrated - opera composer of all time. In creating a theater piece about Mata Hari, the Dutch-born actress Eva Dorrepaal (www.evadorrepaal.com) found that she shared one quality with the infamous World War I-era spy:  an addiction to dangerous love.  The truth is, you could probably find more similarities if you dig farther, but this is the idea behind her solo show, 'Almost Mata Hari - Lovers, Letters and Killers,' whose premiere run will be presented by Theater for the New City January 7 to 24.

The program includes the rarely performed 1895 Symphony No. 3 of “lost” Romantic composer Victor Bendix and Mendelssohn's Piano Concerto No. 1 with Mr. Sanchez Werner—who was featured in 2015 on the Symphony's Notes from Mexico concert. Mr. Turner will perform Lehar's Freunde, das Leben is lebenswert from Giuditta and Dein ist mein ganzes Herz from Das Land des Lachelns, and Offenbach's Au mont Ida, trois Déesses from La Belle Hélène. Completing the program will be the Bach/Stokowski Toccata and Fugue in D minor, which served as the opening work in Disney's groundbreaking and visionary 1940 film Fantasia, which celebrates its 75th anniversary this year. No-host drinks and a pre-concert talk will begin at 7 pm and there will be free lobby entertainment and informal intermission talks with orchestra musicians at the foot of the stage. The Cincinnati World Piano Competition, an annual classical piano competition featuring top performers from across the globe since 1956, welcomes 24 competitors from nine different countries from June 7-13. At stake is over $45,000 in prize money and a debut recital in New York.

The new state of the art fixtures were funded by a DCAS program known as Expenses for Conservation & Efficiency Leadership (ExCEL) and were designed and manufactured by ICON International in North Kingstown, Rhode Island. Installed by NYC Parks electricians over three weeks this spring, the new lighting gives a warm ambient glow to the arch, while highlighting the sculptural ornamentation by Frederick MacMonnies, Philip Martiny and the Piccirilli Brothers, as well as the statues of Washington as Commander-in-Chief and President, by Hermon Atkins MacNeil and Alexander Stirling Calder.

American Ballet Theatre's 2015 season at the Metropolitan Opera House, May 11-July 4, will be highlighted by the New York Premiere of an all-new production of The Sleeping Beauty, a revival of Lar Lubovitch's Othello and repertory programs featuring historic works in celebration of the Company's 75th Anniversary Season.
