The Chicago Symphony Orchestra Association (CSOA) announces a program change for its subscription concerts on April 6-11, 2017.  Igor Stravinsky's recently rediscovered Funeral Song (Pogrebal'naya Pesnya), replaces Glinka's Overture to Ruslan and Ludmila in these concerts. Conductor Charles Dutoit leads the Chicago Symphony Orchestra (CSO) in the U.S. premiere of the Stravinsky work on Thursday, April 6 at 8 p.m. Dvo?ak's Cello Concerto with Truls Mork as soloist and Prokofiev's Symphony No. 5 remain on the program, as previously announced.

The musical Ragtime, which plays through this Sunday, December 4, at the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center, is an important work that weaves actual historical personages into the fabric of its three intersecting stories: an upper-class white family, the African American ragtime pianist Coalhouse Walker Jr., and the Latvian immigrant Tateh. Two of the historical characters in the musical had profound impacts on American political history, which have heightened relevance due to the emotionally charged 2016 election, refocusing attention on matters of race, class, and immigration. This weekend, we interviewed the actors portraying anarchist Emma Goldman and educator/orator Booker T. Washington in the show, which will be featured in advance of this weekend's final performances of this essential work of musical theater.

An orchestral work by the young Igor Stravinsky, assumed lost for over a century, receives its first performance in modern times in St Petersburg on 2 December. Funeral Song (Pogrebal'naya Pesnya) was composed by the 26-year-old composer as a memorial tribute to his beloved teacher Rimsky-Korsakov and, as his op.5, is the missing link between his early Fireworks and Scherzo Fantastique and his ballet The Firebird, written for Diaghilev's Ballets Russes, which launched Stravinsky's international career.

Crowded Fire's Artistic Director Mina Morita unveiled the 2017 mainstage season lineup including two contemporary plays that continue to uphold the company's long tradition of producing boundary - pushing, thought-provoking theater. It is more important now, more than ever to use our creative and critical thought to mine our cultural memory and to interrogate our existence. Hamelin is respected as one of the most "prolific, technically meticulous and programmatically adventurous pianists" (WQXR) in the world. With more than 70 albums on the Hyperion Label, he is considered a master of the classical repertoire as well as an advocate of neglected music from the 19th and 20th centuries and of contemporary music.

The San Francisco Symphony's 2016 holiday season at Davies Symphony Hall offers a festive array of concerts for all ages, from its traditional Christmas classical concerts to classic pop vocalists Gladys Knight and Patti Austin performing with the Orchestra; favorite films like Singin' in the Rain, The Snowman, and a Rodgers and Hammerstein music and film night; family-friendly events like A Charlie Brown Christmas-Live!, the circus feats of Cirque de la Symphonie, and the Orchestra's annual Deck the Hall concerts for children.
