REDCAT, CalArts' downtown center for contemporary arts, presents the legendary New York theater ensemble, The Wooster Group in A PINK CHAIR (In Place of a Fake Antique), April 5 to April 15, 2018.

The New Black Fest and The Lark, two theater organizations dedicated to celebrating and advocating for stories that explore the intersection of art and social justice, are proud to announce the fifth annual The New Black Fest at The Lark. This week-long event is aimed at showcasing diverse and provocative work in a festival of Black theater artists from throughout the Diaspora, and will feature talkbacks, a panel event, and staged readings of four plays-in-progress. The festival will take place April 9-13, 2018, and will include works by 2017 Djerassi Writer in Residence France-Luce Benson (Deux Femmes On the Edge De La Revolution), 2018 Laurents/Hatcher Foundation Award recipient Donja R. Love (soft), 2015 Princess Grace Award-Winner Jonathan Payne (Brother Rabbit), and artist, activist, and The New Black Fest alum Liza Jessie Peterson (Sistergurls and the Squirrel) who has performed excerpts of her one-person play The Peculiar Patriot in over 35 penitentiaries across the country.

Cincinnati Shakespeare Company continues their Debut Season at The Otto M. Budig Theater with Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, by Tennessee Williams. The production is directed by Michael Evan Haney, the former Associate Artistic Director of the Playhouse in the Park, and features Cincinnati Shakespeare Company's resident ensemble, including Maggie Lou Rader, Grant Niezgodski, Jim Hopkins, Justin McCombs, and Kelly Mengelkoch. This show is generously sponsored by Huntington, Murphy Landen Jones, and Roehr Insurance Agency.

The Wooster Group will open their newest piece, A PINK CHAIR (In Place of a Fake Antique) at The Performing Garage (33 Wooster Street) in New York City, with performances from April 28 through May 19, with press opening on Wednesday, May 9. The production will come to New York following a run in Los Angeles at The Roy and Edna Disney/CALARTS Theater from April 5-15, 2018.

On 9 April 2018, Teresa Berganza will be presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the International Opera Awards 2018.

The Grammy-nominated Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, which captures the infectious fun of big band music, will perform at the Younes and Soraya Nazarian Center for the Performing Arts (The Soraya) on Thursday, April 5 at 8:00pm.  Jazz Times called the Los Angeles-based band, with a 32-year history, "one of current jazz's most vital large ensemble." Co-founder bassist John Clayton is a CSUN alumnus who has gone on to play with superstars such as Michael Jackson, Patti LaBelle and Madonna.

Jun Markl is known for his refined and idiomatic explorations of the French impressionists. In this concert, he marks the centenary of the death of one of France's most famous composers, Claude Debussy, with a performance of his famous evocation of the sea in all its moods, La Mer. Markl will also lead the HK Phil in the Hong Kong premiere of Circulating Ocean, a richly colourful score by Japanese contemporary composer Toshio Hosokawa. The programme also includes Mendelssohn's The Hebrides Overture which portrays the violent seas off the west coast of Scotland, and the Spanish composer Manuel de Falla's highly atmospheric piano concerto, Nights in the Gardens of Spain, performed by Argentinean pianist Ingrid Fliter. Due to popular demand, Pipeline Theatre Company (Ari Schrier, Artistic Director; Natalie Gershtein, Producing Director) is proud to announce a one-week extension of the world premiere production of Folk Wandering, a new musical conceived by Jaclyn Backhaus (Men on Boats) and Andrew Neisler (Clown Bar), featuring a book by Backhaus; music by collaborating composers Blake Allen(Boston|Nebraska), Backhaus, Mike Brun (Music Director, Mr. Burns), Andrew R. Butler (Finn the Fearless), Joel Esher (PharmaBro: an American Douchical!), Alex Fast (The Drawer Boy), Jo Lampert (Joan of Arc: Into The Fire), Barrie Mclain (Hundred Days), Annie Tippe (Director, Ghost Quartet), and Dominique Toney ('Crazy Ex-Girlfriend'); and lyrics by Allen, Backhaus, Brun, Butler, Esher, Lampert, McLain, and Tippe. Andrew Neisler will direct.

Carnegie Hall's The '60s: The Years that Changed America, a citywide festival from January 14-March 24, 2018, concludes this month with a vast array of events presented at Carnegie Hall and at more than 35 leading partner cultural institutions throughout New York City. This special exploration of the '60s invites audiences to explore this turbulent decade through the lens of arts and culture, including music's role as a meaningful vehicle to inspire social change.

Alligator recording artists Lil' Ed & The Blues Imperials, touring in support of their latest Alligator CD, THE BIG SOUND OF LIL' ED & THE BLUES IMPERIALS, will perform at The Iridium in New York on Monday, March 5, 2018. MOJO magazine included the new CD in their influential Top Ten Best Blues Albums Of 2016. Currently celebrating 30 history-making years together, Lil' Ed & The Blues Imperials ply their musical talents with skills that have been honed to a razor's edge. Mixing smoking slide guitar boogies and raw-boned shuffles with the deepest slow-burners, Lil' Ed Williams and his Blues Imperials -- bassist (and Ed's half-brother) James 'Pookie' Young, guitarist Mike Garrett and drummer Kelly Littleton -- deliver gloriously riotous, rollicking and intensely emotional blues. Ed guested on TBS Television's CONAN, with Conan O'Brien proclaiming Lil' Ed as 'the man who taught me to play the blues'. The band recently won the coveted 2017 Blues Music Award for Band Of The Year, the same honor they received in 2009 and 2007. They received the Living Blues Award for Best Live Performer three times in five years. In 2017 they were named Blues Band Of The Year by Blues Blast Magazine.

Nancy And Beth (featuring Megan Mullally and Stephanie Hunt) make their Cafe Carlyle debut, May 1-5. The self-described punk-showbiz band has been praised by NPR's All Things Considered as "musical misfits," and "as sharp as any revivalist act going today" by The Los Angeles Times. In a review of their self-titled debut release, Rolling Stone noted "It wouldn't be fair to call it a purely comedy album - it's too seriously musical and carefully curated for it to be that - but Nancy And Beth wisely doesn't try to disguise the comedic gifts of its creators. Instead, it shows the way Mullally and Hunt can be totally in sync to whip up a unique, coherent vision." At the Cafe, Megan Mullally (vocals, choreography) and Stephanie Hunt (vocals) will be joined by Datri Bean (keyboards, vocals), Joe Berardi (drums), Petra Haden (strings, vocals), Sophia Johnson (guitar, vocals) and Andrew Pressman (bass, vocals).

The New York Philharmonic announces program updates for its Lunar New Year Concert and Gala, led by Long Yu, on Tuesday, February 20, 2018, at 7:30 p.m. The program will feature Andy Akiho's Ricochet, Concerto for Ping Pong, Violin, Percussion, and Orchestra, featuring Philharmonic violinist Elizabeth Zeltser (in her Philharmonic solo debut), ping pong players Ariel Hsing and Michael Landers (Philharmonic debuts), and percussionist David Cossin (Philharmonic debut). As previously announced, the program will also include Li Huanzhi's Spring Festival Overture and Beethoven's Choral Fantasy, with pianist Serena Wang, the Farmers' Chorus of the Yunnan Province, soprano Vanessa Vasquez, tenors Chad Johnson and Issachah Savage, and bass Alex Rosen, all in their Philharmonic debuts (the additional soprano and mezzo-soprano will be announced at a later date).
