Orlando Jones will play The Wiz, and Tony Award-winning actress LaChanze will play Glinda, the good witch, in the Encores! BroadwayWorld.com has confirmed the news that Laura Bell Bundy will be briefly returning to the role of Elle Woods, taking over the part on tour, temporarily replacing Becky Gulsvig who has broken a toe. Bundy is currently flying to Washington, DC, the tour's current stop through tomorrow and will begin performances on January 13, 2009 in East Lansing, Michigan, the tour's next stop. The length of her stay has not yet been revealed.

The first joint Broadway project by two-time Tony Award winning director Des McAnuff and choreographer Sergio Trujillo since their collaboration on the Tony Award winning musical Jersey Boys, GUYS AND DOLLS will begin previews on February 3, 2009 at Broadway's newly refurbished Nederlander Theatre (208 West 41st Street). Opening Night is March 1, 2009.

The New York Times is reporting that Philip J. Smith was named today the chairman of both the Shubert Organization and Foundation , a position many consider to the most powerful of all in the theatrical world. Mr. Smith, 77, the organization's president for the past dozen years, is taking over the same job that his longtime friend and mentor. The paper also reports that Robert E. Wankel, was named co-chief executive officer along with Mr. Smith and president. Mr. Wankel, who will turn 62 on Friday, was also elected to the board of directors.

Bloomberg News is reporting today that the board of directors for The Shubert Organization will meet tomorrow, Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 to select a successor for Gerald Schoenfeld.

Mr. Schoenfeld was 84 years old.
