Opened in 1978, The West Bank Café was a pioneer of fine dining on West 42nd Street at a time when Hell's Kitchen still lived up to its name. The Laurie Beechman Theatre, opened in the early 1980's, stages plays and hosts events nightly. Among the myriad of performers
who have graced the stage of The Beechman: The Who, Broadway's Alison Fraser, Karen Mason and Warren Leight, Lewis Black (the theatre's former Playwright-in-Residence), Howard Stern, Dreamgirls composer Henry Krieger and many others. The restaurant's regulars include and have included Tennessee Williams, Arthur Miller, Jane Fonda, Claire Danes, Chita Rivera, Signorny Weaver and Bruce Willis, among many others. Currently, the elegant boite and theater are favorites of a host of New York's most prominent personalities.
