Get ready to shake, rattle and roll and celebrate “July 4 with Big Bad Voodoo Daddy,” as Pacific Symphony kicks off its Summer Festival 2014, presented by Mercedes-Benz. Traditionally the best-attended concert of the year, the Symphony's annual July 4 extravaganza honors American heroes and includes a moving fireworks finale orchestrated to patriotic classics. At the center of this year's holiday concert are the cool cats of Big Bad Voodoo Daddy (BBVD), seven original and two new members of the ensemble that initiated the swing revival of the 1990s with their recreations of Cab Calloway and the Big Band style. The group rocketed to its first phase of stardom when the hits “You Me & the Bottle Make Three (Tonight)” and “Go Daddy-O” were featured in the 1996 film, “Swingers,” starring Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau. Taking the stage with the full symphony orchestra led by Principal Pops Conductor Richard Kaufman, BBVD promises to have the audience swinging in the aisles and grooving to the beats with high-energy songs like “Mr. Pinstripe Suite,” “I Wanna Be Like You” and music from their newest album, “Rattle Them Bones.”

As of August 31st, 2014, Heather Markgraf-Lowe is stepping down as the part-time Artistic Director of the Hudson Village Theatre (HVT). Markgraf-Lowe confided, 'I want to explore several exciting opportunities and I know I am leaving Hudson Village Theatre in good hands.' Ms Markgraf-Lowe selected her final season of plays and looks forwards to another successful summer of entertainment. Kalina Skulska, HVT's Executive Director added that, 'It was a pleasure to work with Heather for the past three years, witnessing the passion and commitment she has for the grassroots initiative that began as a tent in a field more than twenty years ago'. The Old Vic today announced its programme for Summer/Autumn 2014. The CQS Space, The Old Vic in the round, will be home to the whole season of productions, continuing after Other Desert Cities which opens this month. I'm not sure what rock I've been hiding under, but I had never heard of Maripat Donovan's LATE NITE CATECHISM shows until Stages Repertory Theatre announced this summer's offering, LATE NITE CATECHISM LAS VEGAS: SISTER ROLLS THE DICE. This series all began in 1993 in Chicago, when Maripat Donovan opened the original LATE NITE CATECHISM. At the inception of the series and the original show, Maripat Donovan, an actress interested in doing a stand-up show about the lives of the saints, and Vicki Quade sat down to hash out a show. Since the beginning, it was planned as an interactive piece of theatre, and has since gone on to garner many positive reviews and leave audiences rolling in the aisles.
