In Italy, theaters are under real estate pressure; their precious locations and spacious buildings are eagerly sought by developers who try to convert valued cultural assets into commercial buildings.  This clash of artistic idealism and commercial opportunism has been dramatized by Italian playwright Alberto Bassetti in 'Dealers of Souls,' a new play whose American premiere will be presented November 12 to 29 by Theater for the New City in collaboration with Kairos Italy Theatre.  It's a supernatural drama in which two men are negotiating the sale of an old theater. The buyer, a clearly corrupt theater entrepreneur, promises to restore it but actually, he intends to turn it into a supermarket. Can his intrigues be stymied by a strange actress who squats in the building, who seems to be part hobo and part phantom of the theater?  Can she save the day?

Retired principal ballet dancer of American Ballet Theater, Julie Kent, will begin as artistic director of the summer intensive programs for young dancers with the company.  She will also be a teacher and coach for the Ballet Theater, its studio company, and at its Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School, as reported by the NY Times.

The Old Globe presents William Shakespeare's delightful and romantic Twelfth Night, directed by Rebecca Taichman, whose production of the time-traveling Time and the Conways fascinated audiences last April, as part of the 2015 Summer Shakespeare Festival. The Old Globe engagement runs through July 26, 2015, with opening night tonight, June 27 at 8:00 p.m., in the Lowell Davies Festival Theatre.

The complete cast and creative team have been announced for The Old Globe production of William Shakespeare's delightful and romantic Twelfth Night. Mercury closes out the 2014-15 season with an all-Beethoven concert led by Artistic Director Antoine Plante featuring the composer's beloved Eighth Symphony and Triple Concerto on Friday, May 16 at 8 PM at the Wortham Center's Cullen Theater.  The rarely heard Triple Concerto will feature Mercury concertmaster Jonathan Godfrey, principal cellist Kevin Downs and guest pianist, Wendy Chen, playing on an 1832 Bosendorfer 80-key fortepiano, on loan from the Moores School of Music.  The Eighth Symphony is the penultimate performance in Mercury's cycle of Beethoven symphonies, which started in 2009 and will conclude next May in Mercury's 15th Anniversary Season finale with Symphony No. 9, "Choral".  This concert is sponsored in part by Haynes and Boone with underwriting support from Hans and Lili Kirchner, Vey and Brigid Spin, and Stephen and Kristine Wallace.  Tickets start at $18, to purchase or for more information visit www.mercuryhouston.org or call 713.533.0080.

Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman's Pulitzer Prize-winning play YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU opened on September 28, 2014, at the Longacre Theatre (220 West 48th Street). Their remarkable careers will be three more reasons to celebrate our 75th Anniversary Season.”
