Two years ago this play, The Paper Dreams of Harry Chin, was deep in rehearsals at the Indiana Repertory Theatre. It was set to open in March 2020… and then the world shut down. Miraculously, the entire original cast has returned for this production.

San Francisco Playhouse has announced casting for The Paper Dreams of Harry Chin by Jessica Huang. The play will run on the San Francisco Playhouse Mainstage from May 4 through June 18, 2022. Jeffrey Lo will direct.

On March 3-5, 2022, Unsuk Chin's Violin Concerto No. 2: 'Shards of Silence' receives its US premiere with soloist Leonidas Kavakos, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and conductor Andris Nelsons, following the January world premiere with Kavakos, the London Symphony Orchestra, and conductor Simon Rattle. Kavakos next performs Chin's new concerto with the Boston Symphony Orchestra at Carnegie Hall on March 14, followed by the Leipzig Gewandhausorchester at the end of March.

'Chin Up, Eyes Wide Open' is the third single in a larger work coming soon with the songs 'Light' and 'Riot of the Rebel Angels' already released. For all of his new music, Phillips (also a member of The Gadjits, The Architects, and Other Americans) teamed up with musician Barb Morrison (Blondie, Deborah Harry) as his music mentor.

The Marie-Josee Kravis Prize for New Music at the New York Philharmonic, which recognizes a composer for extraordinary artistic endeavor in the field of new music, has been awarded to South Korean composer Unsuk Chin. One of the world's largest new-music prizes, the Kravis Prize includes $200,000 and a commission to write a work for the New York Philharmonic. Ms. Chin's new orchestral work will receive its World Premiere by the Philharmonic in a future season. Funding for the Kravis Prize comes from a $10 million gift to the New York Philharmonic in 2009 by Henry R. Kravis in honor of his wife, Marie-Josee, for whom the Prize is named. Past Prize winners include Henri Dutilleux, Per Norgard, and Louis Andriessen.

The Juilliard School announced that Chaeyoung Park and Yun-Chin Zhou are winners of the 2017 Gina Bachauer Piano Competition.

Soundstreams, in partnership with The Royal Conservatory of Music 21C Music Festival, is thrilled to present The Music of Unsuk Chin on May 28th at Koerner Hall. Jessica Huang's new play is about a time gone by but the issues it raises feel very immediate. Kaleidoscopic and timely, it turns on the true story of an ethnic immigration ban overcome, a hard-working new American, his efforts to support his village back home while starting anew here, and the way family secrets cause pain down through generations. In this fully staged outing, directed by Mei Ann Teo, the play is uneven but important, bold, and promising.

Everyone has heard about it, all around the world. The deadliest shooting in US history happened right here, in Orlando. As actors, it's mind boggling as to why anyone would be unaccepting to others because of their sexual orientation, race, gender, or otherwise. In theatre, we are a family, and everyone is accepted. The only good that could come out of a tragedy like this is the need for the community to come together and make a statement for the LGBTQ community. As an OCPS and Winter Park High School student I got the amazing experience of singing with 400 other students and teachers the song 'Beautiful City' from Godspell. This song represented how we can come together and make Orlando beautiful again.
