Actor/singer Blake McIver Ewing, well known for his big screen remake of The Little Rascals, his amazing 1992 Junior Vocalist Champion status on TV's Star Search and his stint on TV's Full House, among many others, has undeniably left his mark as an immensely talented child star. With his stage appearances in Light in the Piazza, and most recently in the critically-acclaimed Chess, he is showing just how phenomenal a talent he has become: a mature, fully blossomed musical comedy performer. On Sunday, September 5, Ewing added yet another remarkable dimension to his career with his cabaret debut @ Sterling's Upstairs @ Vitello's: Musical Confessions of a Child Co-Star.

Sterling's Upstairs at Vitello's, LA's 'Cabaret destination' as described by the Los Angeles Times, welcomes a stellar roster of headliners as summer temperatures in LA continue to soar.

CHESS opened at the Signature Theatre on August 10 and will run through September 26. The cast is lead by Jill Paice (Curtains, The 39 Steps) as Florence Vassy, Euan Morton (Boy George in Taboo, Sondheim on Sondheim) as Anatoly Sergievsky and Jeremy Kushnier (Footloose, Rent) as Freddie Trumper. The rock musical is directed by Signature's Artistic Director Eric Schaeffer. Written by Mamma Mia! composers Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson with Evita and Lion King lyricist Tim Rice, the 1984 cult musical of Cold War competition in love and chess is being given its first major Washington area production. Chess is being performed in the fabulous intimacy of the 276-seat MAX Theatre.

In September, DC area theatres are filled with almost a dozen musical productions opening -- classics, family shows, and many wonderful plays being performed on our over 200 theatre venues. The humidity is finally melting away, and it's a perfect time to welcome the cooler weather and the colors of the Fall by making a trip to the Nation's Capital and catching a show or two or three. There are family shows with canines and rabbits, a Labor Day weekend theatre festival that's FREE, a new jazz musical with some of the area's most talented singers, and bugs and ants that swing on trapezes. Mr. Ripley is finally coming to town, while I'm hoping that all will be well at Shakespeare Theatre. Someone is trying to deal with a very troubling inch, a Bar-Mitzvah boy has to deal with his crazy family, spelling champions battle it out, and a beagle pilot takes flight. Jacob's Pillow Dance, home of America's longest-running international dance festival, has enjoyed a long history with Dance Theatre of Harlem. Founded to create opportunities for minority dancers at a time when they were not welcome in established classical companies, Dance Theatre of Harlem made its first professional appearances at the Pillow in 1970, the same year the company was launched.
