The French Institute Alliance Fran aise (FIAF), New York's premier French cultural and language center, today announced the 2019 Crossing the Line Festival, featuring 11 performances and a gallery exhibition from a geographically, generationally, and artistically diverse group of artists whose work transcends genres and boundaries. All performances are world, US, or New York premieres; they are united by their convention-breaking fearlessness as they confront topics from social injustice to personal demons. Many of the performances pay homage to legendary artists of our time and previous eras, while the theme of migration and its transformational effects on identity informs several others. The American Shakespeare Center's Spring Season production of ARMS AND THE MAN by George Bernard Shaw opened Friday, April 29, and runs through June 11 at the Blackfriars Playhouse, in Staunton, VA.  The production features Andrew Goldwasser as Captain Bluntschli, Zoe Speas as Raina Petkoff, and Josh Innerst as Sergius Saranoff. California Shakespeare Theater continues its 2014 season with George Bernard Shaw's brilliant Pygmalion, directed by Cal Shakes Artistic Director Jonathan Moscone. Pygmalion plays at the Bruns Amphitheater from July 30 through August 24.

On the 30th October, 1938, Orson Welles broadcast a dramatisation of The War of the Worlds. Seventy five years and one day later the South Australian Radio Collective played a recording of that radio play to an audience who assembled especially to hear this work.
