Audiences will be whisked away to 1960s Baltimore when Pittsburgh CLO presents Hairspray July 20 - August 1 at the Benedum Center. Adapted for the stage from John Water's 1988 film, Hairspray ran on Broadway for over six years and has since become a toe-tapping hit all over the world.

Taking a page from the High School Musical songbook, Executive Producers James Brolin and Dr. William Lewis, alongside Producer Diane Kirman, will soon present the 'Junior High School Musical' equivalent in the soon-to-be-released Standing Ovation family film. A positive tale of perseverance and passion, Standing Ovation arrives in theaters on July 16, 2010, featuring 20 original songs and 13 never-before-seen dance numbers that showcase a cast of talented young newcomers as they learn the importance of loyalty, friendship and family on a journey to fulfilling their dreams. Featuring actors, singers, songwriters, dancers, gymnasts and musicians from Philadelphia, Atlantic City and the surrounding areas, Standing Ovation reveals the undiscovered talent and drive of the East Coast's youth. In celebration of the highly anticipated BROADWAY BARES: STRIP-OPOLY on Sunday, June 20, series creator Jerry Mitchell was the featured guest on Seth's Broadway Chatterbox on Thursday, June 17th, at 6:00 PM. While there, Mitchell talked about all of his current slate of projects. Among them, Mitchell has just redone the opening number of LOVE NEVER DIES, featuring bearded ladies and other 'freaks' with a new song while making other trims throughout the show. The highly-anticipated CATCH ME IF YOU CAN will have a reading next week with 'amazing' new material and the same leads that played the show from Seattle (Kerry Butler, Norbert Leo Butz, Aaoron Tveit and Tom Wopat). The chorus has been expanded from 4 girls to 10 amongst other changes. The show is prepping for January rehearsals for a Broadway bow. Mitchell also just directed a reading of BALLROOM with Tyne Daly that he is directing and developing for a hopeful 2011 production.

Variety.com reports that Norbert Leo Butz (Tony-winner for DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS), Donna Murphy (Tony-winner for PASSION and THE KING AND I), and Bill Irwin (Tony-winner for WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF?) are set to appear in the upcoming 'Higher Ground,' now filming in New York state. Vera Farmiga (Academy Award-nominee for 'Up in the Air') will direct and star in the film, which will also feature Joshua Leonard ('Humpday'). The screenplay is based on a memoir by Carolyn Briggs about her experiences with radical Christianity.

Choreographer Jerry Mitchell has an array of nominations and awards under his belt for his choreography and directing work on the Broadway and West End stages.
