Lifeline Theatre to Present MR. POPPER'S PENGUINS

Lifeline Theatre's KidSeries presents Mr. Popper's Penguins, a world premiere musical adaptation with script by Lifeline Theatre ensemble member Robert Kauzlaric (Non-Equity Jeff Awards: New Adaptation, The Island of Dr. Moreau and Neverwhere), music and lyrics by George Howe (Non-Equity Jeff Award: New Work-Musical, Queen Lucia), and directed by Lifeline Theatre ensemble member Paul S. Holmquist (Non-Equity Jeff Award: Best Production-Play, The Island of Dr. Moreau; Non-Equity Jeff nomination: Director-Musical, The Robber Bridegroom, Griffin Theatre), based on the novel by Richard and Florence Atwater. This production is recommended for children ages five and up (children under two not permitted), and runs approximately one hour with no intermission. (more...)

To accommodate ticket demand, Lifeline Theatre announces eight added performances of its KidSeries production of Mr. Popper's Penguins, a world premiere musical adaptation by Lifeline Theatre ensemble member Robert Kauzlaric, with music and lyrics by George Howe, and directed by Lifeline Theatre ensemble member Paul S. Holmquist, based on the novel by Richard and Florence Atwater. Money is tight and times are tough in the town of Stillwater. With no houses to paint till spring, Mr. Popper is stuck at home daydreaming of adventures in far-off lands, while Mrs. Popper must scrimp and save just to put beans on the table. But with the unexpected arrival of a spirited penguin named Captain Cook, a new horizon opens before them. As a quiet partnership expands into a boisterous flock, the Poppers learn that there's no problem that can't be solved with steady determination, lots of love, and a dash of unconventionality. This production is recommended for children ages five and up (children under two not permitted), and runs one hour with no intermission. (more...)

British Museum Opens New Exhibition 'Reimagining Captain Cook: Pacific Perspectives'

To mark the 250th anniversary of Captain Cook's first voyage, the British Museum today presents a new exhibition which re-examines the explorer's relationship with the people of the Pacific. Reimagining Captain Cook: Pacific Perspectives looks at the ways Cook's explorations are viewed in the places he visited and by descendants of the people he encountered. Objects from the British Museum's collection associated with Cook's voyages are displayed alongside contemporary artworks made by artists from the region. Together, these works demonstrate that the impact of his voyages remains complex, contentious and largely unresolved. (more...)

BWW Reviews: PETER PAN, JR. in Bridgeport

A lot of people have had their hands in creating Peter Pan, Jr., and the result is a wonderful show for the children. Based on the 1904 J.M. Barrie and 1953 Disney film, Peter Pan, Jr. streamlines a lot of the story and songs of the productions with which most adults are familiar. The most glaring omissions are the songs, 'I'm Flying' and 'I Won't Grow Up' and the barely visible strings of the flying effects. But this production at the Downtown Cabaret Children's Theatre more than make up for that. And, after all, most of the kids won't know what they missed, and will enjoy the show anyway. (more...)

In April 2015 the British Museum will open a major exhibition presenting a history of Indigenous Australia, supported by BP. This exhibition will be the first in the UK devoted to the history and culture of Indigenous Australians: both Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islanders. Drawing on objects from the British Museum's collection, accompanied by important loans from British and Australian collections, the show will present Indigenous Australia as a living culture, with a continuous history dating back over 60,000 years.
