From June 9 - 19, 2016, Houston Ballet will conclude its 2015-16 season with the world premiere of artistic director Stanton Welch's Giselle. The world premiere of Giselle is made possible through the generosity of longtime Houston Ballet supporter and trustee Lynn Wyatt. This production will showcase the company's strength and depth of talent, while staying true to the original story of love, betrayal, and redemption, set in the Romantic era. The ballet is set to the famous score by Adolphe Adam and designed by renowned Italian designer Roberta Guidi di Bagno, who will create the scenery and costumes for the production.

In anticipation of Pride Week, Thank You For Coming Out (TYFCO) is teaming up with Fun Home to hold an improv workshop benefiting the organizations I'm From Driftwood and How We G.L.O.W. Each of the four groups amplify the LGBTQ voice in a different way and aim to promote an understanding among communities. This workshop will encourage empathy, inclusivity and acceptance within the LGBTQ community by using and teaching the ideals of improv - listening, trust, respect, affirmation and connection with each other through the principle of Yes, And. TYFCO and Fun Home's main goal is that both I'm From Driftwood and How We G.L.O.W. can take what they learned back to their organizations and continue to inspire others.

San Diego Musical Theatre's 42ND STREET Begins Today

San Diego Musical Theatre (SDMT) continues their 2016 season with the musical comedy classic 42ND STREET today, May 27. This Tony Award-winning musical features music and lyrics by Harry Warren and Al Dubin, book by Michael Stewart (Hello Dolly, Bye Bye Birdie) and Mark Bramble (Barnum), directed by James Vasquez. Performances run through June 12, 2016 at the historic Spreckels Theatre. Press opening is Saturday, May 28th at 8:00PM.

The 2016 MAY FESTIVAL to Conclude This Weekend at Music Hall

The 2016 May Festival, which celebrates and concludes Music Director James Conlon's 37-year tenure, ends Friday and Saturday, May 27-28 with grand scale performances at Music Hall. These will be the final performances at Music Hall prior to its closing for renovation. On Friday, May 27 at 8 p.m., Mr. Conlon leads Dvo?ak's deeply personal cantata, Stabat Mater, a work was written during a time of deep grief for the composer following the death of his children. This rarely-performed work is full of symbolism, following a journey of mourning to hope of Paradise. At the invitation of James Levine, Mr. Conlon made his May Festival debut in 1978 conducting Stabat Mater (the following year he began his storied tenure as Music Director). Joining the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and May Festival Chorus will be soloists Julianna DiGiacomo (soprano), Elizabeth DeShong (mezzo-soprano), Anthony Dean Griffey (tenor) and Kristinn Sigmundsson (baritone).

Should you ask Bryce McDonald to point out the year of his life in which it was changed - irrevocably, but most certainly, for the better - chances are he would have difficulty in pinning down the most significant time in his life. He might select 1984, the year he first attended a show at Cumberland County Playhouse (it was Annie), or 1996 when he first stepped onto the CCP stage as a young man (in Oliver!) or it might be 1999, when he first began to train as a stage manager at the iconic Crossville theater (again, it was Annie) that has become 'home' for countless theater artists over the years.

Varna International Publications - Local Publisher Releases a Two-Volume Collection of Childhood Bulgarian Folktales Bulgarian-born local business owner, Kalin Tchonev, is pleased to announce the release of the first two volumes of Petals from the Rose, a storybook series presenting a collection of Bulgarian tales for the first time to an American audience. Local businessman, Kalin Tchonev, launches his first publication venture with the release of two volumes of a newly translated series of Bulgarian Folktales, the Petals from the Rose Series. The stories result from his collaboration with world-class author, Scott Cairns, and award-winning international illustrator, Boris Stoilov, bringing his childhood stories to lifenot only for his young son's enjoyment, but for a new generation and culture. Tchonev, CEO of Varna International Publications, is excited to present these Bulgarian stories for the first time to an American audience through two initial volumes of international children's literature books. The publication release date for this series is set for April 1, 2016. This first edition of the English adaptation of Bulgarian Folk Tales was printed in Bulgaria. The books are dedicated to the publisher's young son Eliav Tchonev. Tchonev says of this project, 'My first encounters with literature were fairy-tales from around the world. Our home held a vast library. I read through countless large volumes of tales from different nations' folk traditions: French, Japanese, Siberian, Arabic, German, Indian, Bulgarian, as well as many novels and stories by authors from around the world. I was fascinated by these stories from distant lands and people. I was delighted that, with each tale, the world itself seemed both to expand and to beckon. These tales inspired me.' The motivation of his childhood literary experiences and the yearning for his son to experience the same are not the only endeavors Tchonev has through this project. He desires that his books open the door for Americans to the culture and heritage of Bulgaria. 'These books contain a selection of the folk tales of the Bulgarian people,' he said. 'They are particularly special to me, as they originate from the land of my birth, among a land and a people I deeply cherish. I am delighted to bring these tales from Bulgaria to the children of America and wish them a wonderful journey, traveling - through the power of imagination - to the distant land and people of Bulgaria.'
