The Maggie Allesee Department of Theatre and Dance, a program within the College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts at Wayne State University, is thrilled to honor Michigan native and Tony Award-winning producer of 'Hamilton,' Jeffrey Seller, with the 2019 Apple Award on Wednesday, March 27 at the Fisher Theatre. A private, pre-show reception with Mr. Seller will be held at the Fisher Theatre before guests attend 'Hamilton' that evening at 8 p.m.

Handbag's very first show will return March 15 - April 28, 2019 at a venue befitting of an ocean liner: The Edge Theater, 5451 N. Broadway in Chicago.

Alabama-based husband-and-wife folk/rock duo Martha's Trouble (aka Rob and Jen Slocumb) will be setting sail October 6 through October 13, 2019 on their first-ever concert cruise.  Fans of the pair's music are encouraged to purchase a cabin and join them for a very special, exclusive music experience on the high seas on board the Royal Caribbean's Harmony of the Seas. Fans must purchase a cabin through the duo's site on Fan Club Cruises (https://fanclubcruises.com/event/mathas-trouble-concert-cruise) in order to partake in three Martha's Trouble concerts, a meet-and-greet, and a very special Q&A storytelling session during the course of the cruise.  The fan club offering is limited to 50 cabins, so the shows and special Martha's Trouble events on-board the ship will be intimate and personal for fans who join the fun. Departing from Port Canaveral, Florida, the cruise will visit Labadee in Haiti, San Juan in Puerto Rico, and Phillipsburg in St. Maarten, before returning to Florida.  

Director Paul G. Caron has announced the cast for the upcoming CLT production of the hit musical comedy Avenue Q. This puppet-filled comedy, with music and lyrics by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx and book by Jeff Whitty, Avenue Q is an 'autobiographical and biographical' coming-of-age parable, addressing the issues and anxieties associated with entering adulthood. Winner of the Tony 'Triple Crown' for Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book, Avenue Q is 'part flesh, part felt, and packed with heart.'

Singers from the Black Broadway community have joined together to create a music and mental health album of inspirational cover songs. In just two rehearsals, the Darkness RISING cast recorded an album intended for anyone who lives with anxiety, depression, bipolar, or other mental illnesses. Music has been proven be therapeutic and healing. It can provide emotional support, increase motivation, and offer an outlet for expression of feelings.

San Francisco Opera Guild will honor Bay Area philanthropists John A. and Cynthia Fry Gunn at the sixth annual An Evening on the Stage on Wednesday, November 28. The set of composer Jake Heggie and librettist Gene Scheer's holiday opera It's a Wonderful Life provides the magical backdrop for this year's event, when the Opera Guild's 2018 Crescendo Award will be presented to John Gunn, Chairman of San Francisco Opera's Board of Directors, and arts patron Cynthia Fry Gunn. On Friday, December 14, 2018 at 8:00 p.m. at the Church of the Holy Trinity in Rittenhouse Square in Philadelphia, The Crossing gives its annual Christmas concert, The Crossing @ Christmas, presented by Annenberg Center Live. The concert is in memorial of Jeffrey Dinsmore, co-founder of The Crossing, and features an evening-length world premiere by Gavin Bryars, composer of The Fifth Century, for which The Crossing won the 2018 Grammy Award for Best Choral Performance.

LA Stage Alliance Nominated Actress and New Times Winner, Best Actress Susan Claassen stars in the Bay Area premiere of "A Conversation With Edith Head" at Pear Theatre from December 7 through 16. The internationally acclaimed show, based on EDITH HEAD'S HOLLYWOOD by Edith Head and Paddy Calistro, is a feast of delicious behind-the-scenes stories about Hollywood's greatest stars that provide an intimate portrait of Hollywood's legendary costume designer. "A Conversation With Edith Head" previews on December 6, with press and Opening Night on Friday, December 7 (followed by a champagne gala).
