From October 21 - November 20, 2016, SpeakEasy Stage Company will proudly present the New England Premiere of THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS, a bold new musical by Broadway legends John Kander and Fred Ebb about a sensational true story that changed American history. 

25 years after the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical production of Frances Hodgson Burnett's classic children's story The Secret Garden, the Shakespeare Theatre Company (STC) and the 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle will co-present the timeless tale from November 15-December 31 at Sidney Harman Hall (610 F Street NW). The musical is directed by David Armstrong, Artistic Director at The 5th Avenue Theatre, with whom STC is co-producing the production.

He also wrote the lyrics for West Side Story and Gypsy. Lloyd Webber has composed 13 musicals, a song cycle, a set of variations, two film scores, and a Latin Requiem Mass. He has also gained a number of honours, including a knighthood in 1992, followed by a peerage from the British Government for services to Music, seven Tony Awards, three Grammy Awards, an Academy Award, fourteen Ivor Novello Awards, seven Olivier Awards, a Golden Globe Award, and the Kennedy Center Honors in 2006. Several of his songs, notably 'The Music of the Night', 'I Don't Know How to Love Him', 'Don't Cry for Me, Argentina' and 'You Must Love Me', 'Any Dream Will Do' and 'Memory' have been widely recorded and were hits outside of their parent musicals.

Off-Broadway's acclaimed Classic Stage Company today announced plans for its 2016-17 season, led by incoming Artistic Director John Doyle and Managing Director Jeff Griffin. Doyle, a Tony Award winner for Sweeney Todd and the director of Broadway's highly-praised new production of The Color Purple, assumes the artistic leadership of CSC beginning in July, succeeding Brian Kulick, who has led the company since 2003. On February 15, 2016 HAMILTON will perform its opening number live at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards. SantaLand Diaries is arguably the defining short story that put the now iconic essayist, NPR regular, and perpetual sardonic wit, David Sedaris on the literary map back in 1992. The story was adapted as a one-man stage production by Joe Mantello (Wicked, Take Me Out, Assassins) in 1996. The tale tells Sedaris' sarcastic story of his holiday season stint as Crumpet, one of Santa's Christmas elves at Macy's flagship New York City store. Mantello's adaptation, like the original, brings us behind the scenes of Macy's famous holiday attraction, counting down the days till Christmas using Sedaris' signature cynical style. The shop talk of a 33-year old, snarky, gay, man-elf includes ridiculous memories of a crew of bitter Santas, exasperated parents, puking children and utterly confused foreign tourists. In the end, Crumpet simultaneously tears down our sugar-coated image of a child's annual visit to see Santa, while leaving us inspired that the Christmas spirit somehow manages to live on in even the most bitter of St. Nick's little helpers.

Bay Street Theater has announced that FIVE PRESIDENTS, the new play by Emmy Award-winning writer Rick Cleveland (Six Feet Under, The West Wing, and House of Cards), will extend its run for an additional week due to popular demand. The production will now run from tonight, June 23-July 19.
