Simon Armitage's Adaptation of HOMER'S ODESSEY Gets Its Theatrical Premiere 9/3-9

From September 3 to 19, Handcart Ensemble will present the stage premiere of 'Homer's Odyssey' as adapted by Simon Armitage, one of Britain's most gifted and prolific poets. A series of contemporary verse dialogues, it was commissioned by BBC Radio and performed for Radio 4 in 2004.

Berkeley Rep Announces Creative Team For Green Day's AMERICAN IDIOT, Kitt and Hoggett Join Production

Today Berkeley Repertory Theatre announced the creative team for its world premiere of American Idiot. Based on the Grammy Award-winning album of the same name, the show features the music of Green Day and the lyrics of its frontman Billie Joe Armstrong. American Idiot is being staged by Tony Award-winning director Michael Mayer, who also collaborated with Armstrong on the story. It features the work of Olivier Award-winning choreographer Steven Hoggett and music supervisor Tom Kitt, the Tony-winning composer who provided string arrangements for the band's latest album, 21st Century Breakdown.

Annex (66 East 4th Street) in Manhattan, with previews beginning May 28, prior to an official press opening Sunday, May 31. Conceived, written, and directed by the legendary Ellen Stewart, AESCULAPIUS tells how the son of sun god Apollo and mortal maiden Coronis transcends to his rightful place in the heavens because of his great work in medicine. It is believed that Aesculapius' story has never before been told on stage.

The New York Times is reporting the Michael Mayer, the Tony Award-winning director of Spring Awakening, will begin work on a new musical production adapted from 'American Idiot,' the best-selling album by the punk band Green Day. The project is scheduled to make its debut in September at the Berkeley Repertory Theater in California.
