Marin Theatre Company announces the West Coast premiere of Happy Now? by British playwright Lucinda Coxon. Happy Now? received rave reviews on both sides of the Atlantic in London and New York. Jasson Minadakis directs Happy Now? in the Boyer Theatre November 11 through December 5, 2010. Opening night is November 16.

A sweeping saga of love beneath the Tuscan sun, TheatreWorks, the nationally acclaimed theatre of Silicon Valley presents the epic Tony Award-winning musical THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA, with book by Pulitzer Prize-nominee Craig Lucas and music and lyrics by Adam Guettel, based on the 1960 novella by Elizabeth Spencer. Set to the soaring melodies of what the Chicago Tribune called 'the most beautiful score written for the American musical theater in 20 years,' this breath-taking musical is the poignant tale of two extraordinary young people and the overwhelming power of love. Featuring Broadway veterans Rebecca Eichenberger and Martin Vidnovic and regional favorites Whitney Bashor and Constantine Germancos, with TheatreWorks Founding Artistic Director Robert Kelley at the helm, THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA plays August 25-September 19, 2010 (press opening August 28) at TheatreWorks at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts. Frank Kuhn directs The Drunkard at Metropoiitan 9/18-10/17

Metropolitan Playhouse, 'theatrical archaeologist extraordinaire' (Backstage), presents a revival of The Drunkard, or The Fallen Saved by W. H. Smith. First presented in Boston in 1844, and later by P.T. Barnum in New York in 1848, The Drunkard now receives its first professional production in the city since 1993. Frank Kuhn comes to New York to direct Metropolitan's revival at 220 E 4th Street September 18th through October 17th, 2010.

Nine theater artists will be honored by the Henry Hewes Design Awards Committee during the presentation of its 46th Annual Awards in a luncheon ceremony this fall. Eighty-one theater artists were nominated for outstanding artistry in 46 productions presented during the 2009-2010 New York theater season. For the first time in 15 years, a work by Nobel Prize winner Harold Pinter will be presented on The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey's Main Stage. Beginning on August 11 and continuing through August 29, Pinter's 1975 modern classic No Man's Land, directed by artistic director Bonnie J. Monte, will run at the F. M. Kirby Shakespeare Theatre.

Even as its shows reach New York and London, Berkeley Repertory Theatre begins another season of fearless theatre here at home: Emmy- and Tony Award-winning actor Mandy Patinkin stars in the world-premiere production of Compulsion on Berkeley Rep's intimate Thrust Stage. Acclaimed director Oskar Eustis returns to the Bay Area with Rinne Groff's latest play, a kaleidoscopic collision of history and culture that combines stellar acting with marvelous marionettes. Compulsion, a world-premiere co-production from Berkeley Rep, The Public Theater, and Yale Repertory Theatre, begins previews on September 13, opens September 16, and closes October 31.

A Noise Within (ANW), the acclaimed classical repertory theatre company led by Co-Founders/Co-Artistic Directors Geoff Elliott and Julia Rodriguez-Elliott, announces its 2010-11 season featuring seven productions. Presented from September 2010 to June 2011 are the West Coast premiere of Neil Bartlett's new adaptation of Charles Dickens' GREAT EXPECTATIONS, a reprise of ANW's critically acclaimed and popular staging of Michael Frayn's NOISES OFF, Shakespeare's MEASURE FOR MEASURE and THE COMEDY OF ERRORS, Noel Coward's BLITHE SPIRIT, Tennessee Williams' THE ECCENTRICITIES OF A NIGHTINGALE, and Eugene Ionesco's THE CHAIRS. The season, ANW's 19th and last in its current Glendale location before moving in Fall 2011 to a spectacular new Pasadena venue, concludes with three retrospective evenings of the company's many years in Glendale.
