The video for “Gainesville”—a previously unreleased song on the Tom Petty career-spanning box set An American Treasure—is premiering today. “Gainesville” was recorded in 1998 during Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers' Echo sessions, and the video was directed by Brantley Gutierrez and produced by Michael W. Dick clark productions and ABC announced an all-star lineup of soul and gospel legends who will come together to pay homage to the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, at the "2018 American Music Awards." Gladys Knight, Ledisi, Mary Mary, Donnie McClurkin and CeCe Winans, friends of the late, luminary singer/songwriter, will take the AMAs stage for a moving tribute honoring Franklin's gospel roots and iconic gospel album, "Amazing Grace." Consulting producer for the tribute is the Emmy Award®-winning music director, composer and producer Rickey Minor. Hosted by Tracee Ellis Ross, the "2018 American Music Awards," the world's largest fan-voted awards show, will broadcast live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 8:00 p.m. EDT, on ABC.

The Barbican today launches Life Rewired, an arts and learning season running throughout 2019 exploring what it means to be human in the face of technological and scientific forces that are dizzying in their speed, scale and complexity.

With so many Beatles' tribute bands around, it's sometimes difficult to try to figure out which one is most authentic and who is sincere in their desire to keep the Beatles' music alive. BWW had a chance to chat with one of the members of the touring group recently. Gavin Pring had a head start above many others who perform Beatles' music because, not only does Pring hail from Liverpool, England (the Beatles hometown), but his uncanny resemblance to George Harrison will have you wondering if it really is Harrison himself.

The U.S. premiere of renowned playwright Stefano Massini's Intractable Woman: A Theatrical Memo on Anna Politkovskaya, opens on Sunday, September 23 at 122CC Second Floor Theater. The Play Company (PlayCo; Founding Producer Kate Loewald, Managing Director Robert Bradshaw), directed by Lee Sunday Evans (Dance Nation, PlayCo's Caught), and translated by Paula Wing, Intractable Woman follows journalist and human rights activist Anna Politkovskaya, who was murdered in Moscow in 2006 after spending the previous seven years exposing government suppression and the atrocities of war in Chechnya.

Previewed last night at a private event at the New York Public Library, The Maurice Sendak Foundation announced that it has commissioned the first major and only full-length stage play adaptation of Where the Wild Things Are. This stage adaptation follows a 1984 opera and 2009 film based on the classic children's story. The New Victory Theater (a project of The New 42nd Street), New York City's premier performing arts nonprofit entirely devoted to kids and families, has committed to produce the play, marking its first foray into original production. The creative team for the production is in formation and will be announced at a later date.

The 2018 Margaret Mead Film Festival—the internationally recognized premier platform for documentary films—will screen 55 outstanding films representing 39 countries and host special events and performances from Thursday, October 18, through Sunday, October 21, at the American Museum of Natural History. Austin-based rock artist Jonathon Zemek gears up for the official release of his comic book/rock opera project 'Hillcrest' this weekend. The album part of the project will be out everywhere music can be streamed/bought - including Austin's own Waterloo Records - while the comic book can be purchased at this link, or at Zemek's booth at this year's Wizard World Austin convention starting this Friday, Sept. 21 through Sunday Sept. 23 at the Austin Convention Center. 'Hillcrest' can be found at booth 1032 in Artist Alley at Wizard World Austin. At the booth, merchandise, CDs and books will be available and Zemek will be joined by 'Hillcrest' illustrator Chris Rogers on Friday and Sunday, who will be live-sketching for interested patrons, as well as producer Matt Smith and vocalist Andrea Lindzey on Saturday. Soul-rock, Austin-based musician Jonathon Zemek premieres the new single 'Death of Me' from the multimedia project 'Hillcrest' today with Glide Magazine. The premiere can be found here. 'Death of Me' is the second single off 'Hillcrest,' and features Matt Smith, the album's producer, on vocals. 'Hillcrest' is a rock opera with an accompanying comic book depicting a fictional coming of age story penned by Zemek and Smith. The project will be released Sept. 21, 2018, premiering at the Wizard World Austin pop culture convention (taking place Sept. 21-23 and located at the Austin Convention Center). At Wizard World Austin, people can meet Zemek and see and purchase the comic book as well as the album. 'Hillcrest' features Guy Forsyth, Malford Milligan, Matt Smith, Andrea Lindzeyand Roderick Sanford who lend their voices to characters in the story of 'Hillcrest,' while the book is illustrated by local street artist Chris Rogers. For more information, please see here.

The production, Massini's U.S. debut, follows vast acclaim for the National Theatre's new production of Massini's The Lehman Trilogy, directed by Sam Mendes. With PlayCo's upcoming production of Massini's Intractable Woman, American audiences will have their first opportunity to see his work staged in the U.S.

On September 28, Reprise Records will release An American Treasure—a career-spanning Tom Petty box set. The 60-track set unveils dozens of previously unreleased recordings, alternate versions of classic songs, rarities, historic live performances and deep tracks that spotlight Tom's remarkable depth and evolution as a revered and tremendously influential songwriter, recording artist and performer. An American Treasure marks the first release of Tom Petty music since the artist's tragic passing in October 2017.

Kiss Me, Kate has found its leading man! Roundabout Theatre Company just announced that Tony Award nominee Will Chase (The Mystery of Edwin Drood, "Nashville" and upcoming HBO's "Sharp Objects") will join Tony Award winner Kelli O'Hara in a new Broadway production of the musical comedy Kiss Me, Kate. Chase will star as "Fred GrahamPetruchio."
