For the first time in its 48-year history the Alhambra Theatre & Dining in Jacksonville (FL) will perform The Color Purple. Nominated for 11 Tony Awards in 2006, the show will open at the Alhambra on March 26 and run through April 27, 2014.

Chance Theater presents the fifth show of its 15th Anniversary Season - a family-friendly holiday offering The Secret Garden - The Musical with book and lyrics by Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Marsha Norman, music by Tony Award nominee Lucy Simon, and directed by Casey Long and KC Wilkerson. The Associated Press is reporting that world-renowned author, Alice Walker whose many hits include 'The Color Purple' has just signed a deal with publishing powerhouse Simon & Schuster's 37 Ink to release a selected of her journals in 2017. Titled 'Gathering Blossoms Under Fire', it's said to be a mix of new journals that look back on her life, along with a half-century of diary entries about her life.

The Hatmaker's Wife marks the first Playwrights Realm production at the Peter Jay Sharp Theater (416 West 42nd Street) in midtown Manhattan, following previous engagements in several downtown Off-Broadway venues. Previews begin tonight, August 27, for an opening Thursday, September 5.

Producers Jeffrey Richards and John N. Hart Jr., in association with the American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.), have announced that the box office will open on Thursday, August 8th for the 17-week limited engagement of the critically-acclaimed revival of The Glass Menagerie at the Booth Theatre (222 W 45th Street) with performances beginning Thursday, September 5, 2013, and an opening night set for Thursday, September 26th. The production will star multiple Tony and Emmy Award-winner Cherry Jones as Amanda Wingfield, film and stage star Zachary Quinto as Tom, two-time Tony-nominee Celia Keenan-Bolger as Laura, and Brian J. Smith as Jim, the Gentleman Caller.

The 2013 Mostly Mozart Festival comes to a close in its fourth week, with more than 10 events taking place between August 19 and August 24. The final week begins with a special chamber music concert by the celebrated Emerson String Quartet, 7:00pm on August 19 at Alice Tully Hall. The ensemble, which made its first Festival appearance in 1983 and has performed nearly every season since that time, makes its highly anticipated first New York City appearance with its newest member, cellist Paul Watkins. The Emerson String Quartet will add to the Festival's overarching focus on Beethoven by performing all three of Beethoven's famed "Razumovsky" Quartets: String Quartet in F major, Op. 59; String Quartet in E minor, Op. 59; and String Quartet in C major, Op. 59.

The Boston Theater Critics Association previously announced its nominations for the 31st Annual Elliot Norton Awards. The awards, which recognize excellence in Greater Boston theater, will be presented tonight, May 13, at 7 p.m. at the Paramount Mainstage, 559 Washington Street, Boston.

The Theatre Group at SBCC will present the new comedy BECKY'S NEW CAR by Steven Dietz as the final play in the 2012/2013 season. Directed by Katie Laris, Becky's New Car will run tonight, April 24-May 11, 2013 in the intimate Jurkowitz Theatre.
