The Central Works 2017 season concludes this Fall with Strange Ladies by Susan Sobeloff opening with a press night on Saturday October 14 running through November 12 (previews Oct 12 & 13) at the renowned Berkeley City Club. Strange Ladies is a Central Works Method Musical inspired by the Suffrage movement. The production is told with music of the period under the musical direction of Milissa Carey. 1917: a diverse group of Suffragists are fighting to gain the vote for women as the US entered World War I. Torn between loyalty to their political cause and loyalty to the war effort, these women each struggle to make difficult choices in a time of tremendous social upheaval. The personal pits each against the political in Strange Ladies.

The award-winning documentary Fabergé: A Life of Its Own will be released on iTunes, On Demand, DVD, and Blu-ray on April 10, 2017, in the centennial year of the Russian Revolution. The feature-length film introduces new footage revealing the most valuable Imperial Egg designed by the House of Fabergé-the exquisite Winter Egg of 1913 commissioned by Tsar Nicholas II for his mother. Sold at auction in 2002 to a private collector for $9.6 million (now estimated to be worth $60 million), the Winter Egg is generally perceived by Fabergé authorities to be among the most spectacular and desirable Fabergé objects ever produced.

Opened in 1928, the lavish Ohio Theatre was built to be a movie house, complete with an extravagant theatre organ to provide the soundtrack of the day's silent films. The Atlanta Musical Theatre Festival is thrilled to announce the selections for the Second Annual Atlanta Musical Theatre Festival (AMTF), which will be held July 30 and 31, and August 1, 2017, at Out Front Theatre. The AMTF will be three nights of original musical theatre performances by local artists, as well as showcase performances of professional productions and educational groups. Performances will be open to the artistic community, the public, and the press. Twenty-two submissions were accepted and three shows have been selected for the second annual event. Directed by Aimee Todoroff and Tonya Pinkins and now in performances at the Gloria Maddox Theatre, Visionary Voices begins with Susan Glaspell's Trifles, followed by Marita Bonner's Exit: An Illusion and ending with Glaspell's The People - three wonderful plays that are more engaging and poignant in their single acts than many full length shows ever have the opportunity of being. All three plays take place at or near the start of the twentieth century, craftily combining themes as relevant today as they were then - collaborating with suspenseful plots, troubled characters and questionable motives that, when put together, show just how clever Todoroff and Pinkins are. In both the structure of this show as a whole and the effect it has on the audience, the truth here is that Visionary Voices is more than a statement - it is definitely a production worth your time.
