New York's Broadway and London's West End have long been the biggest destinations for live theater, and now, a new exhibition opening at The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts honors the rich creative talent and award-winning productions in both cities. Co-curated by The Library for the Performing Arts and the V&A, where the exhibition debuted earlier this year, in partnership with the Society of London Theatre (SOLT), Curtain Up: Celebrating the Last 40 Years of Theatre in New York and London highlights how the theatre districts of both cities have flourished and developed since 1976. Leona Lewis will sing her final 'Memory' today, before her time with Cats becomes just that. After taking on the role of Grizabella after pop star Nicole Scherzinger decided to depart the revival in favor of being a judge on The X Factor, Lewis joined the production in time for the Broadway transfer, which opened July 31st. She will be succeeded in the role of The Glamour Cat by her understudy, Mamie Parris, who begins performances as Grizabella on October 17th.

When one describes a meal or a performance as 'interesting,' it's usually a euphemism for awful, or at least deeply flawed. But Rosemary Loar's STING*chronicity, the musical theater and cabaret performer's second show devoted to Sting's songbook, is genuinely interesting---and ballsy. Featuring 13 characters who share little beyond a profound love for Sting (and mutual attendance at the Police reunion tour at Madison Square Garden in 2007), the show presents Loar's highly stylized and unusual interpretations of songs both from the Police era and Sting's forays into jazz as a solo artist.

The first-ever Broadway revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber's iconic musical, CATS, returns to Broadway tonight at the Neil Simon Theatre (250 W 52nd Street).

Since it was performed the first time in 1981, 'Memory' has become one of the most beloved songs in the history of musical theatre. Now the tune has returned to the stage it to which it belongs, as CATS opens again on Broadway tomorrow, July 31. 

EOT proves once again that they are several notches above other community theatres; this is one terrific show where everything comes together.

'It's all about growing and being willing to change…about people finding a way to look at things from both sides and learn to empathize.' The soft-spoken man sitting opposite me thoughtfully answers my question about the universality of the musical theatre piece in which he stars, Fiddler on the Roof. There is a gentle, heartfelt quality to all his comments, and one understands immediately why Bill Nolte makes an ideal Tevye. The Broadway actor, singer, and visual artist makes his Maine State Music Theatre debut on July 20 in a part he has played twice before, and he waxes eloquent about the experience in Maine and his reunion with director/choreographer Gary John LaRosa and many of the veteran cast members.
