Over half a century since the original production, the Fugard Theatre's forthcoming, brand new production of the legendary South African musical KING KONG is fully cast, with rehearsals commencing on 12 June.

Marking an incredible milestone of presenting 'stars under the stars,' the HBO Bryant Park Summer Film Festival presented by Bank of America with Swedish Fish, JLL, WeWork, and Time Out in association with Bryant Park Corporation, celebrates its 25th Anniversary with a New York themed line-up. When Dawn Wells last appeared at the Alhambra Theatre, ticket started at $7.50, the Alhambra Dinner Theater served a buffet and she was directed by George Ballis.  That was in 1974 and Ms. Wells played the lead in Neil Simon's Barefoot in the Park.  On May 24, 2017, Ms. Wells will once again star at the Alhambra, this time in the Tod Booth-directed show, Steel Magnolias in what is now the Alhambra Theatre & Dining, celebrating its 50th anniversary season and is the longest running professional dinner theater in America.

Town Hall and (Le) Poisson Rouge are proud to present the Jazz Epistles, featuring Abdullah Ibrahim and his acclaimed jazz ensemble Ekaya live in New York City for the first time on South Africa Freedom Day, April 27th. Hugh Masekela, originally scheduled to perform at this show, has been sidelined by a medical emergency, a dislocated right shoulder resulting from a recent fall while on tour in Morocco. He will be replaced for this program by the young South African trumpeter Lesedi Ntsane.

On Friday, April  28, 2017 at 7:30 pm Concerts at Saint Thomas Presents The Copenhagen Royal Chapel Choir. As one of Europe's leading choirs, this fine choir has delighted listeners since 1924 with its interpretation of the works of major composers of the renaissance and baroque eras, as well as 20th century choral music for boys' and men's voices. Since 1959, the choir has been resident at Copenhagen Cathedral and as part of its duties performs at state occasions and during royal visits abroad.

The 'play that changed American theater forever' (New York Times) comes to Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater for the first time ever this spring.

There have been various responses to the new presidency and the current political climate, including Facebook groups, letter writing and calling campaigns, petitions, and a nation-wide women's march. But what do artists do in response to injustice? They make art. Last weekend 7th House Theater opened a short run of what they call a 'pop up production' of the 1959 play RHINOCEROS, written by Eugene Ionesco as a response to the rise in Fascism in pre-WWII Europe. As company member David Darrow explained before the show, their new original musicals take about a year to plan, write, create, and produce, which makes it challenging to stay current. But with this piece, 7th House is presenting 'a specific work at a specific time in history.' After just ten days of rehearsal, they very intentionally opened on the night of the inauguration, a work presented in what David called 'a mostly sort of way.' While the staging is minimal and actors have scripts in their hands, Rhinoceros is a work that is wholly entertaining, eerily relevant, and exactly what we need right now.

The hilariously complicated relationship of a daughter and her mother takes center stage when Contra Costa Civic Theatre (CCCT) presents Tony award-winner Lisa Kron's thought-provoking comedy, Well, directed by Susan E. On February 3, 1959, after performing together on the Winter Dance Party Tour, rock and roll musicians Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J.P. 'The Big Bopper' Richardson were killed in a plane crash near Clear Lake, Iowa. The three, together with pilot Roger Peterson who also perished, were attempting to make it to their next stop by plane rather than travel by bus during a raging snowstorm. The event later became known as 'The Day the Music Died' after singer-songwriter Don McLean so referred to it in his 1971 song 'American Pie.' And although I was too young at the time to really understand what their deaths meant to the world of early rock and roll, I certainly appreciate the music they left behind that will live on as long as others continue to spin the tunes and keep imitating these rock and roll icons onstage.

Leon Russell, born Claude Russell Bridges, who sang, wrote and produced some of rock 'n' roll's top records, passed away Sunday, Nov. 13 at the age of 74.

Having recently celebrated his 76th birthday in front of the iconic Capitol Records building in Hollywood as part of his #PeaceAndLove birthday celebration, Ringo Starr presented a gift to Southern California fans when he announced a new set of fall tour dates that includes a concert at Segerstrom Center for the Arts today, October 20 at 7:30 p.m. in Segerstrom Hall.
