BWW Interviews: WAR HORSE National Tour's Megan Loomis
by Heidi Scheuermann - May 12, 2014

Set in early 1900s Europe at the onset of World War I in a town called Devon, England, WAR HORSE takes us on a journey with a boy named Albert and his friendship with his horse Joey. A play about a boy and a horse sounds simple enough, right? But how do you control a horse on stage?

AMERICAN IDOL Recap: IDOL Game Changer Can't Prevent Major Elimination
by Matt Tamanini - May 2, 2014

Oh boy! Tonight's elimination episode kicked off with Ryan Seacrest teasing a 'shocking twist' that none of the idols will see coming. After last week's absolutely not-shocking 'shocking' elimination, I was more than a little weary of trusting Ryan. Next he said that each finalist will have a difficult decision to make. I wasn't sure if this would actually end up being 'game-changer' or just another in a long line of IDOL swerves.

BWW Reviews: American Century's Hilarious, Surreal 'Oh Dad, Poor Dad, Momma's Hung You in the Closet and I'm Feelin' So Sad'
by Andrew White - Mar 25, 2014

Written in the late 1950's in a fine post-graduate frenzy, Kopit's play was inspired as much by the European avant-garde as by the angst of the Eisenhower years. Director Tyler Herman has done a great job in his first production, creating the anarchic, bizarre feel that Kopit's play requires, with Katie Wertz's surreal set and Jacy Barber's biologically-correct costumes (for the fish and plant life) creating just the right off-kilter atmosphere.

InDepth InterView: Elaine Stritch On New Doc, ELAINE STRITCH: SHOOT ME, Plus Sondheim Stories, Broadway Memories & Much More
by Pat Cerasaro - Feb 17, 2014

Today we are setting our sights on one of the most iconic Broadway leading ladies alive and looking back at her astonishingly rich and varied career onstage and onscreen, having worked with many of the most important entertainment figures of the 20th and 21st century over her 60-year career and winning multiple awards and honors in the process - the one and only Elaine Stritch. Touching upon her time in many notable theatrical entities ranging from her early work at The New School under director Erwin Piscator to rubbing elbows with legends like Bertolt Brecht, William Inge, Noel Coward, Tennessee Williams and Marlon Brando to her unforgettable turns in Stephen Sondheim's COMPANY and FOLLIES IN CONCERT, Stritch also shines a light on her indelible performances in the plays of Edward Albee and looks ahead to a staged reading of THREE TALL WOMEN she is pursuing later this year. Most importantly, Stritch opens up about the multi-year process in creating the stunning and awe-inspiring new all-access documentary ELAINE STRITCH: SHOOT ME, directed by Chiemi Karasawa, and outlines how she dealt with cameras documenting her every move for more than two years. Additionally, Stritch comments on her memorable moments in the films of Woody Allen byway of SEPTEMBER and SMALL TIME CROOKS, as well as shares insights into some of her most famous and fabulous co-stars - Ben Gazzara, Alec Baldwin, James Gandolfini, Steve Buscemi and many more included. Plus, Stritch details her recent move back to her hometown of Detroit, Michigan, and shares details about her recent recuperation from hip surgery and ongoing battles with alcoholism as well as learning to see with only eye. As if all of that were not enough, Stritch also imparts her thoughts on why she appeals to the younger generation and how her Emmy-winning 30 ROCK role has raised awareness for her in the last decade and whether she would ever consider pursuing a reality series or new solo cabaret act. All of that, why she hates the word diva and much, much more in this career-spanning conversation with the veritable reigning queen of Broadway herself.

BWW Reviews: Winsome TRUDY AND MAX IN LOVE Debuts at South Coast Rep
by Michael L. Quintos - Jan 17, 2014

In her terrific new play TRUDY AND MAX IN LOVE---now having its World Premiere performances at South Coast Repertory in Costa Mesa through January 29---writer-actress Zoe Kazan (Ruby Sparks) puts an engaging millennial spin on the typical cute-boy-meets-cute-girl story. While, true, the situations---and the complications---presented here feel somewhat familiar to the genre, the dramedy's enjoyable execution---particularly in the hands of its impressive cast of superb actors---make it, ultimately, a captivating play that's winsomely fresh and oh-so-current.

Glee-Cap: The End of Twerk.
by Robert Lawlor - Nov 14, 2013

Guys, you know I've been thinking - you know what Glee needs more of? Continuity, Klaine, and Katy Perry are all great things to say, but you know what Glee REALLY needs more of? TWERKING! Come on, just what we all want to see is our Gleeks twerk the night away. ..I know, I know - I'm a genius. Well, apparently Ryan Murphy and crew have heard my genius idea, and are giving us what we ALL want to see. Tonight, it's a twerking good time, Gleeks - and you ain't even ready. Twerking has taken control of the McKinley hallways, and New Directions is getting themselves set up to twerk the competition away with some twerking tutorials for those who lack the twerking ability. Rachel makes a change and cuts her hair, which does not sit well with her director, but despite the hair cut, Rachel kills it in the rehearsal room with her co-star singing 'You Are Woman, I Am Man'. After the number, the director is knocked out by how the hair cut enhances Rachel's performance. Score one for Ms. Berry! A bathroom revolution breaks out at McKinley thanks to Unique, while Rachel reveals her new do is a wig, and challenges Kurt to break out of his mundane routine and live a little. Who knew La Berry was such a rebel rouser? Kurt gives into Rachel's probing and they decide to break out the alcohol and let loose. Oh boy, another Berry Trainwreck Extravaganza?

FUNK, New Album by Keller Williams, Out Today
by BWW News Desk - Nov 12, 2013

Being a Keller Williams fan means being ready for anything—trying to guess where this omnivorous artist will head next might be fun but chances are good you won't even come close. In the past three years alone Williams has recorded an album of eclectic cover tunes with the Keels (Thief), a children's record (Kids), the bass-centric and appropriately titled Bass, a bluegrass set with the Travelin' McCourys (Pick) and a Grateful Dead tribute project on which he played piano exclusively (Keys). Add to that a hectic touring schedule that might find him playing with the McCourys, the Keels, with his newest outfit More Than A Little or—as he's done for years—as a solo one-man-band. See a complete fall tour itinerary below, including his just announced a 3-night New Year's Eve run that launches on December 27th at Mr. Smalls in Millvale, PA, hits Beachland Ballroom & Tavern in Cleveland, OH on December 28th, and wraps up on December 31 at Baltimore's Rams Head Live with sets by Keller solo, Keller Williams with More Than A Little, and Keller and the Keels.
