THE GERSHWINS' PORGY & BESS Extends Through September 30, 2012

The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess is now on Broadway with a cast led by four-time Tony Award winner Audra McDonald (Ragtime, "Private Practice") as Bess, Drama Desk nominee Norm Lewis (Les Miserables, Sondheim on Sondheim) as Porgy and two-time Tony nominee David Alan Grier (Race, "In Living Color") as Sporting Life.
The New York Times has just revealed that the production will extend its run through September 30, 2012, due to both critical and box office success. The production was originally scheduled to close on July 8, 2012. The news was released by producers, who have emailed groups sales reps informing them of the extension.

The Denver Center Theatre Company (DCTC) today announced of the lineup of playwrights and directors for its Seventh Annual Colorado New Play Summit. Over three days, February 10 -12, 2012 in downtown Denver, DCTC will present multiple showings of four play readings, a multimedia workshop and two fully-produced main stage plays, including new works by Pulitzer nominee Lisa Loomer, 2011 Obie winner Samuel D. Hunter, and direction by Broadway veterans Marcia Milgrom Dodge (Ragtime) and Sam Buntrock (Sunday in the Park with George).

Broadway's REBECCA Cancelled for Spring! Aiming for 2012-2013

The producers of REBECCA, the new musical based on the classic novel by Daphne du Maurier novel (later turned into an Oscar-winning film by Alfred Hitchcock) announced this morning that the production has been postponed until next season. REBECCA was slated to open Sunday, April 22 at the Broadhurst Theatre, with previews beginning March 27.

Named as First Night's Outstanding Musical of 2011 was Lipscomb University Theatre's production of Hairspray, directed and choreographed by Justin Boccitto. ACT 1's production of American Buffalo, directed by Ryan Williams, claimed top honors as First Night's Oustanding Play of 2011, and the national touring company's Memphis, the Musical, which played Andrew Jackson Hall at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center, was named as First Night's Outstanding Touring Production of 2011, besting productions of Spring Awakening, In The Heights, Wicked and Les Miserables.
