Denver Center for the Performing Arts' Broadway & Cabaret announce the 2020/21 season subscription shows and added attractions. Princeton Summer Theater have announced the selection of Eliana Cohen-Orth as the company's Artistic Director for 2020. A member of the Princeton University Class of 2021 and a student in Princeton's Program in Theater, Cohen-Orth will spearhead the summer season in advance of Princeton Summer Theater's 50th anniversary celebration in November.

Loss. It's not easy for anyone to discuss. Everyone deals with loss in different ways. Carousel Theatre of Indianola is exploring the process of dealing with losing a loved one in their current production of Sarah Ruhl's 'Eurydice,' which opens on March 6. While the subject matter may be challenging to discuss, this production delicately brings this beautiful show to its audience.

Recently, Los Angeles Opera has had to announce the cancellation of the final performance of Roberto Devereux on the main stage as well as both performances of Angel's Bone, which was to have been presented in partnership with Beth Morrison Projects at the Broad Stage. At present, the governor's closure order for Los Angeles remains in place through April 19, and the opera has not yet canceled additional performances. Noting that they are vigilantly watching for updates that would affect the remaining May and June performances, the company is still holding out hope. The priority is, of course, the safety of patrons and company members, so they're taking it one day at a time.

The LA Opera and the Metropolitan Opera join forces to co-produce the world premiere of EURYDICE from the creative minds of composer/conductor Matthew Aucoin and librettist Sarah Ruhl; beginning February 1, 2020 at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. Based on Sarah's 2003 play EURYDICE, this Greek myth unfolds from the heroine's perspective. Mary Zimmerman directs a talented cast that includes: Danielle de Niese, Rod Gilfry, Joshua Hopkins, John Holiday, Barry Banks, Stacey Tappan, Raehann Bryce-Davis and Kevin Ray. Sarah graciously took time out to answer a few of my inquisitive queries.

On January 17, 2020, Los Angeles Opera presented Stefano Landi's 1619 opera, The Death of Orpheus, (La Morte d'Orfeo) at El Cid, a performance space usually known for dinner theater. Landi may have written his own libretto. In any case, the story of the five-act opera was inspired by Angelo Poliziano's 1484 pastoral tragicomedy La Favola d'Orfeo.

The third program in Early Music New York's 45th anniversary season under the rubric 'Harmony of the Spheres' will open, fittingly, with an early symphony by William Herschel, who would go on to become the foremost astronomer of his age, and discoverer of the seventh planet, Uranus. Orpheus, Eurydice, a trouble-making horse and Death herself converge in a very funny and irreverent reimagining of the Greek myth by surrealist poet, playwright and filmmaker Jean Cocteau. Deaf West Theatre views Cocteau's whimsical, magical and highly visual play, first performed in 1926, through a unique lens: translated from the French into Spoken English by John Savacool, into American Sign Language by Andrew Moore, and slated for a run at the True Colors Festival in Tokyo, Japan at the end of April. Deena Selenow directs Orphée in a visiting production at the Odyssey Theatre, opening March 13 for a four-week run through April 5. Three low-priced previews are set for March 8, March 11 and March 12.

Rolando Villazón, one of the world's most handsome tenors together with the Ensemble L'Apreggiata under the baton of Christina Pluhar is bringing Monteverdi's masterpiece L`Orfeo to Vienna. Claudio Monteverdi's L`Orfeo the world's very first Opera can be seen as one if not the most important work in classic history. Orpheus myth is brought to live by Monteverdi's phenomenal creation. The concert has played only one performance before back in 2016 in Germany. Vienna and his historical background are perfect for a concert like this. Rolando Villazón a Multi-talented artist is not only one of the finest voices, in 2017 he was appointed as the ambassador of the Salzburg Mozarteum Foundation and he was named as the artistic director of the Salzburg Mozart Week. L`Orfeo is based on the Greek legend of Orpheus and tells the story of his descent to Hades and his futile attempts to bring his dead bride Eurydice back to life.

On February 1, 2020, Los Angeles Opera presented the world premiere of Matthew Aucoin's third opera, Euridice. He composed it together with Sarah Ruhl who wrote the original 2003 play. Aucoin, Ruhl, and this presentation's stage director, Mary Zimmerman, have been the recipients of the MacArthur Fellowships known as 'Genius Grants.'

The 20/21 season launches with Academy Awarda?"winner Aaron Sorkin's adaptation of Harper Lee's Pulitzer Prizea?"winning masterwork TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD and includes Tony- and Grammy Awarda?"winner HADESTOWN. The expanded season sees the Orlando premieres of TOOTSIE, THE BAND'S VISIT, THE PROM and THE CHER SHOW, along with audience favorite CATS.
