Italian Puppet Master Mimmo Cuticchio Brings Free Puppet Theater Performances to Illinois

 Mimmo Cuticchio, master puppeteer and one of the last true heirs of the Sicilian theatrical tradition of the Opera dei Pupi, brings two free performances of "The Great Duel between Orlando and Rinaldo for the Beautiful Angelica's Sake" to Illinois. The first will take place Tuesday, Oct. 30 at 6 p.m. at the University of Illinois-Ubana, Illini Room B, 1401 W. Green St.

Written by Jon Robin Baitz (Other Desert Cities; TV's Brothers & Sisters, and Feud Season 2) and directed by Robert Egan, this Trump-inspired satire stars John de Lancie (Star Trek, Breaking Bad) as a real estate mogul about to enter the final presidential debate of the 2016 campaign. It is followed by a haunting post-script set 12 years into the future assessing the state of the nation and all that's been wrought in the election's wake.

Brian Selznick's books, including Wonderstruck and The Invention of Hugo Cabret, are cabinets of wonder, drawing us into their magical tales with child-eyed awe. Both novels drew upon cinematic influences for both story and visual style. On the occasion of the new movie adaptation of Wonderstruck, directed by Todd Haynes, Museum of the Moving Image will present the screening series Inspiring Wonderstruck, featuring some of the movies that inspired both the book and the movie, from October 13 through 22, 2017. On October 14, during the opening weekend of the series, the Museum will present a preview screening of Wonderstruck with Selznick, production designer Mark Friedberg, and costume designer Sandy Powell in person, followed by a book signing with Selznick.
