Children’s Theatre Company Presents THE WIZARD OF OZ, Beginning 11/11

The Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park will continue its Thompson Shelterhouse Theatre season with the heartfelt, toe-tapping tribute to musical legend Patsy Cline. A sold out-hit at the Playhouse in 2000 and 2003, ALWAYS ... PATSY CLINE begins previews in the Playhouse's Thompson Shelterhouse Theatre November 19, 2011 and continues through January 22, 2012.

The Phoenix Theatre Opens AVENUE Q, 4/19/12

The Phoenix Theatre of Indianapolis announces Avenue Q will return to the Phoenix Mainstage in the 2011-2012 previously TBA spot. Avenue Q, with music and lyrics by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx and original story by Jeff Whitty, opened off-Broadway at the Vineyard Theatre in March 2003, where it gained rave reviews, and was extended four times.

Based on the novel by E.L Doctorow, Terrence McNally's script weaves together the story of three groups in America, represented by Coalhouse Walker Jr, a Harlem musician; Mother and her family in New Rochelle; and Tateh, a Jewish immigrant who has come to America with his daughter seeking a new life. It features many historical figures, including Harry Houdini, Booker T. Washington, JP Morgan and Henry Ford.

American Opera Projects (AOP) and Opera New Jersey reunite sopranos Lauren Flanigan and Catherine Malfitano in The Family Room, a new one-act opera written especially for them by composer Thomas Pasatieri (The Seagull ) with an original libretto by Daphne Malfitano. The dark drama tells the story of two nameless women living in a windowless studio who speak of dinner parties and relatives, of husbands and love and a child named Georgie, but their only company is ominous sounds from above.

A.R.T. American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) opens its 2011-12 season with The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess, by George Gershwin, DuBose and Dorothy Heyward, and Ira Gershwin. The adaptation by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Suzan-Lori Parks and Obie Award-winning composer Diedre L. Murray, directed by A.R.T. Artistic Director Diane Paulus, with choreography by Ronald K. Brown, begins previews on August 17 and opens for the reviewing press on August 31 at 7pm. Performances are at the Loeb Drama Center, 64 Brattle Street, Cambridge. Tickets for preview performances are currently on sale, remaining tickets for the run go on sale on July 12.
