Centaur Theatre Presents Bowser & Blue's SCHWARTZ'S: THE MUSICAL, 3/29-4/24

By:

Centaur Theatre is very excited to announce that Schwartz's: The Musical, the much-awaited musical inspired by Bill Brownstein's popular book, "Schwartz's Hebrew Delicatessen: The Story," will be premiering on March 29th on our main stage.

Comedy duo extraordinaire Bowser & Blue bring the deli's colourful story to the stage with a full cast of larger-than-life characters who call Schwartz's home, and some of the many customers who pass through its doors. Schwartz's: The Musical celebrates what makes us Montrealers with humor, wit and heart, while grappling with such issues as the smoked meat and pastrami debate, the food police, and the dreaded F-word: franchise!

Directed by Centaur's Artistic and Executive Director Roy Surette, the multi-talented cast of actors and musicians comprising of Chris Barillaro, Rick Blue, George Bowser, Jim Cahill, Vito DeFilippo, Bruce Dinsmore, Holly GauthierFrankel, Dominic Lorange, Stephanie Martin, Gordon Masten and Felicia Shulman play a variety of characters ranging from Toronto executives, to Schwartz's owners, staff and loyal customers from over the years!

Audiences will be familiar with George Bowser and Rick Blue's 2006 work The 4 Anglos of the Apocalypse, (written and performed with Josh Freed and Terry Mosher), their musical The Paris of America which ran for seven sold-out weeks in 2003, 1997's Mainly Montreal and 1996's Troubadour's Through Time. Acoustic guitarist and harmonica player Rick Blue and electric/acoustic guitarist George Bowser have been writing and performing music and comedy together since 1978. They have written and performed in many theatre shows across the country, including their 2008' show The 25th Century Belongs to Canada and the smash hits Blokes and Blokes Deux, also at Centaur.

The creative team behind Schwartz's: The Musical includes Shane Snow for choreography, John C. Dining for set and prop design, James Lavoie for costume design and Luc Prairie for lighting design. The Assistant Musical Director is Chris Barillaro and the stage management team is comprised of Melanie St-Jacques with assistant stage manager Stephanie Link.

ALSO OF NOTE: Schwartz's famous smoked meat sandwiches will be available on select evenings.
