KC Rep's 50th Anniversary Season to Open with David Cromer's OUR TOWN, 9/5

Kansas City Repertory Theatre will open its 50th anniversary celebration with the Kansas City premiere of David Cromer's Our Town, an enduring American story which examines the everyday lives of an average town's citizens in the early twentieth century. Our Town, one of the greatest American plays written by Thornton Wilder, the three-time Pulitzer prize-winning playwright and novelist will be directed by David Cromer, MacArthur Foundation 'genius' grant recipient and director of KC Rep's 2009 production of The Glass Menagerie which received national and local critical acclaim. This co-production with UMKC Theatre will feature redesigned seating at Spencer Theatre in the James C. Olson performing Arts Center on the UMKC campus. The show will run September 5 through 28th. Aurora Theatre Company to Present AMERICAN BUFFALO, 6/13-7/13

Tony-nominated director Barbara Damashek, who helmed Aurora Theatre Company's acclaimed productions of Fat Pig and Private Jokes, Public Places, returns to direct AMERICAN BUFFALO, featuring James Carpenter (John Gabriel Borkman, The Master Builder, The Birthday Party, The Homecoming), Paul Vincent O'Connor (Death Defying Acts, National Tour August: Osage County), and Rafael Jordan. Jean Doumanian Productions to Produce Film Adaptation of Nic Pizzolatto's GALVESTON

Jean Doumanian Productions, producers of August Osage County, will produce the upcoming film adaptation of Nic Pizzolatto's acclaimed novel Galveston, featuring a screenplay adapted by Pizzolatto himself. Janus Metz is set to direct. Matthias Schoenaerts, who starred in Bullhead and in Rust and Bone (for which he won the 2012 Cesar Award for Most Promising Actor), will lead the cast as 'Roy.' (The character of 'Rocky,' the female lead, has yet to be cast.) Shooting is planned to commence in Spring, 2014.

The play debuted in Chicago in 2008 at Steppenwolf Theatre Company then moved to Broadway in 2009 and now it will make its Michigan debut at the Purple Rose. The comedy-drama is set in a Chicago donut shop and is about the unlikely friendship of the owner, Arthur, and his new employee. The esteemed actor Randolph Mantooth plays Arthur.
