Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, New York City Center's Principal Dance Company, returns to the theater's stage from November 28 - December 30, 2018 for a milestone season. During the Company's Ailey Ascending 60th Anniversary celebration, Artistic Director Robert Battle leads Ailey's 32 extraordinary dancers during this five-week holiday engagement that will elevate a legacy of excellence in artistry with premieres by some of today's most revered and prolific choreographers, including world premieres by Rennie Harris and Ronald K. Brown; a company premiere by Wayne McGregor; a new production of by Robert Battle; the return of a recent premiere by Jessica Lang, and special performances of rarely seen works by Alvin Ailey himself.

New Amsterdam Singers (NAS), led by Music Director Clara Longstreth, launches its 2018-19 season with a program of little-known psalm settings, most written for double chorus, by composers from different centuries. The McCallum Theatre presents Bob Newhart on Saturday, November 17, at 8:00 pm. One of the most important, influential, and beloved figures in the history of American comedy, Chicago native Bob Newhart has been entertaining audiences around the world for over 50 years. Bob has enjoyed success in television and films as well and hosted the "Tonight Show" an astonishing 87 times. His early TV effort, the "Bob Newhart Variety Show," earned an Emmy Award and a Peabody Award and was followed by the television success of "The Bob Newhart Show" (1972-1978) and "Newhart" (1982-1990). He has appeared in over 14 feature films, including Elf, On a Clear Day You Can See Forever, Catch 22 and Legally Blonde 2, and has starred with the likes of Steve McQueen, Bobby Darin, Barbara Streisand, Madeline Kahn and Walter Matthau. He's also provided character voices for major animated films.

SAG-AFTRA commends the United States Senate for passing the Music Modernization Act. SAG-AFTRA President Gabrielle Carteris said the following:

The Recording Academy and its members across the country are celebrating today's passage of the Music Modernization Act by the Senate. This movement of the historic bill is a victory for all music creators, setting a clear path to the president's desk.

Artistic Director Mark Cuddy and Executive Director Christopher Mannelli have announced that Pirronne Yousefzadeh will be joining Geva Theatre Center in the newly-created position of Director of Engagement / Associate Artistic Director. She will be a member of the senior leadership team and will be responsible for planning, leading and growing the organization's community engagement efforts. She will also be a key member of the artistic staff, participating in season planning and directing productions in both the Wilson and Fielding Stages. Ms. Yousefzadeh will begin her new position in September, and relocate to Rochester in the spring of 2019. Geva's new Engagement Department is supported in part by a grant from the Allen and Joyce Boucher fund of the Rochester Area Community Foundation.

With the fiery intensity of a tigress, Judy McLane channels opera diva Maria Callas in Theatre Raleigh's production of Terrence McNally's MASTER CLASS. The Tony Award-winning MASTER CLASS opened on Broadway in 1995. The play is inspired by the master classes Callas taught at Julliard in 1971 and 1972. McLane is masterful as the temperamental Callas, moving across the stage like a woman possessed, regaling the audience with stories, never 'missing an opportunity to theatricalize,' criticize, and dramatize.

Irish Arts Center welcomes back Mikel Murfi, one of the most vital and versatile voices in Irish theater, to present two of his solo works-companion plays I Hear You and Rejoice and The Man in the Woman's Shoes(September 12-October 21). The plays, presented in repertory by the celebrated writer and performer, see Murfi embodying a mute shoemaker and the coterie of characters he encounters in a small Irish town in County Sligo. While Rejoice functions as a sequel to Shoes (whose U.S. premiere IAC presented in 2015), revealing the bittersweet next chapter of the lives of the characters audiences came to know and love inthat first play, the two works easily stand alone. Those who saw The Man in the Woman's Shoes in 2015 will find their relationship with Murfi's singular style and his depiction of small town Irish existence deepening, and audiences new to his work will marvel at how his acting acrobatics can, most importantly, access and activate our hearts.

Everything old is new again. This iteration of Pippin, masterfully directed and choreographed by Al Blackstone, has one foot in the original 1972 Bob Fosse version and the other foot in the 2013 Diane Paulus 'Cirque' Revival.

Promethean Theatre Ensemble Artistic Director Brian Pastor says, "Friedrich Nietzsche once noted that 'when we are tired, we are attacked by ideas we conquered long ago.' As Promethean begins its 13th season, we are reminded of one of our founding tenets: that we tell stories of the past to illuminate our present. Today the Irish nation and the world theatre community comes to terms with the sad passing of one of Ireland's brilliant voices, the extraordinary playwright Tom Murphy.

The Artistic Home Ensemble will present the Chicago premiere of Lauren Gunderson's ADA AND THE ENGINE as the final entry in its three-play 2018-19 season, according to company Artistic Director Kathy Scambiatterra, who announced the season today. The 36-year-old Gunderson was the most-produced playwright in America during 2017, according to American Theatre Magazine.

National New Play Network, the country's alliance of nonprofit theaters that champions the development, production, and continued life of new plays, announces five NNPN Rolling World Premieres (RWP): Ready Steady Yeti Go by David Jacobi, Ripe Frenzy by Jennifer Barclay, Apples in Winter by Jennifer Fawcett, The Mermaid Hour by David Valdes Greenwood, and Heartland by Gabriel Jason Dean. The five plays will receive a total of 17 NNPN RWP productions, with each play seeing at least three distinct productions in a 12-month period.

American Composers Orchestra (ACO) continues its 2017-2018 season, under the leadership of Artistic Director Derek Bermel, Music Director George Manahan, and President Edward Yim, with Dreamscapes, on Friday, April 6, 2018 at 7:30pm at Carnegie Hall's Zankel Hall (57th St. and 7th Ave.).

The nonprofit AT&T Performing Arts Center announced today that tickets for Toots & The Maytals will go on sale Friday, February 23 at 10 a.m.   Toots Hibbert is one of the great voices of Jamaica and The Maytals built their reputation with energetic straight-from-church style of singing and their "spiritual" ska beat. Toots & The Maytals will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at Strauss Square in the downtown Dallas Arts District.

American Composers Orchestra (ACO) announces two performances presented by Carnegie Hall in Zankel Hall during the 2018-2019 season. In 2018-2019, under the leadership of Artistic Director Derek Bermel, Music Director George Manahan, and President Edward Yim, ACO continues its commitment to the creation, performance, preservation, and promotion of music by American composers, with programming that reflects the infinite ways American orchestral music illustrates geographic, stylistic, gender, and racial diversity. ACO's concerts at Carnegie Hall include premieres by 2017 Pulitzer Prize-winner Du Yun, by composer and Imani Winds flutist Valerie Coleman, and by Alex Temple, a composer who integrates love for pop culture and the Western classical tradition. Additional 2018-2019 performances and activities will be announced in March 2018.
