The iconic folk trio Peter, Paul and Mary made music together for nearly 50 years. In this intimate evening of song and reflection, Peter and Paul perform their enduring anthems of social change, including "If I Had a Hammer," " Blowin' in the Wind," and "Puff the Magic Dragon," among others. They will also remember their contributions to the civil rights movement and the woman who completed their trio of positivity, the late Mary Travers.

Carnegie Hall's The '60s: The Years that Changed America, a citywide festival from January 14-March 24, 2018, continues in February with an exciting array of events to be presented at Carnegie Hall and at more than 35 leading partner cultural institutions throughout New York City and beyond. This special exploration of the '60s invites audiences to explore this turbulent decade through the lens of arts and culture, including music's role as a meaningful vehicle to inspire social change.

This February, the world-famous Apollo Theater will host a series of artistic and community programs celebrating Black History Month. Since its inception in 1934, the legendary Theater has celebrated and provided a platform for emerging African American talent as one of the first theaters to integrate, and has since been a catalyst for rising artists of diverse backgrounds.

Black History Month is a prime time to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s assassination in Memphis, TN. What better way to honor this historical event than by attending the West Coast Premier theatrical production of The Watsons Go To Birmingham - 1963. This is a play Adapted by Reginald Andre Jackson. Based on the Newberry and Coretta Scott King Honor Book novel by Christopher Paul Curtis.  This Comedy/Drama production is an All The Way West Productions, Inc. with Harry Jones, Jr. as producer and making her directorial debut, Bernadette Speakes.

Smithsonian Channel Examines The Life And Death Of An Iconic Civil Rights Activist In THE LOST TAPES: MALCOLM X

Mixed Magic Theatre has added two performances of a dramatic reading of Dr. Martin Luther King's letter from Birmingham City Jail, directed by Ricardo Pitts-Wiley on Saturday, January 27th at 7:30 PM and Sunday, January 28th at 2:00 PM.

The Broadway musical, I Have a Dream, first debuted in 1976 with Billy Dee William playing Dr. King. The play portrays the life of Dr. King and important moments of the civil rights movement through song and dance. Written by Josh Greenfield and directed by veteran actor Herman LeVern Jones of TheatreSouth, the production has toured internationally. It includes many gospel songs from the Civil Rights Movement, including We Shall Overcome and Free at Last to be performed by professional soloists and the Fresh Start Church Gospel Choir of Glen Burnie. Coretta Scott King and Rosa Parks praised the show when they saw it in the 1980's. Order tickets at www.mlkjrmd.org. January 13, 2018, with an added performance on MLK Day, January 15th. Adapted for the stage by Jerome Hairston, with music by Victor Zupanc, the show is inspired by four of Keats' most beloved stories, including the 1963 Caldecott Award-winning The Snowy Day. The show celebrates the wonder of childhood in the city - from making tracks in the freshly fallen snow, to learning how to whistle, to imagining new worlds with a best friend who lives across the hall - these small moments of delight and joy are captured beautifully. Incorporating shadow puppets, songs, mime and humor, the 45 minute show for children will appeal to all ages.

Mixed Magic Theatre presents its annual dramatic performance of Dr.King's remarkable letter which demands accountability from church, business and political leaders in an effort to effect change. Screenwriter and LGBTQ rights activist Dustin Lance Black (Milk, When We Rise) is set to receive the Writers Guild of America West's 2018 Valentine Davies Award in recognition for his civil and human rights efforts, which have positively impacted the LGBTQ community.
