The Laguna Playhouse recently announced their upcoming 2010-2011 season, which marks the company's 90th anniversary. The 2010-2011 season begins July 6 with the award-winning hit musical Life Could Be a Dream. The New York Philharmonic will present The Russian Stravinsky: A Philharmonic Festival conducted by Valery Gergiev on April 21-May 8, 2010. The three-week festival - one of several initiatives launched during Alan Gilbert's first season as Music Director - will offer an in-depth look at Stravinsky, exploring how his Russian roots informed his works. Led by the Russian-born Mr. Gergiev, the festival will feature eight programs over three weeks, including concerts, lectures, pre-concert talks, radio broadcasts, podcasts and an Archives exhibit.
Occording to the Orange County Register, Laguna Playhouse of Laguna Beach, CA, will be making cutbacks and changes due to declining revenues. In addition to laying off four members of the full-time production staff, downsizing measures include moving out of their leased property in Laguna Hills, which was used for rehearsal space and instruction classrooms. They have no plans however, to leave their mainstage facility at the Moulton Theatre. Laguna Playhouse's 2010-2011 season will be announced in the coming weeks and is expected to feature five production compared to their previous seasons of sevens shows.
