CSO Announces Three-Year Multimedia Collaboration

The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and Music Director Louis Langree are thrilled to announce a three-year collaboration with director, production designer and visual artist James Darrah. The project involves a multi-faceted exploration of Maurice Maeterlinck's 1893 symbolist play, Pelleas et Melisande.

The Coal Mine, Artistic Curator Ted Dykstra and Artistic Producer Diana Bentley, launch their second season of powerful and often darkly humourous adventures in drama with Jez Butterworth's THE RIVER, November 1-22, 2015. The English playwright's poetic follow-up to his international hit Jerusalem, will receive its Canadian premiere with direction by Ted Dykstra; starring David Ferry as The Man, Jane Spidell as The Woman, and Dani Kind as The Other Woman.

The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra to Welcome Violinist Karen Gomyo, 10/2-3

The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra announces an artist update to its performances on Friday and Saturday, October 2-3 (8 p.m.) at Music Hall. Hailed by the Chicago Tribune as, “A first-rate artist of real musical command, vitality, brilliance and intensity,” violinist Karen Gomyo will perform Sibelius' lush and technically dazzling Violin Concerto (the originally scheduled repertoire for this performance). The originally scheduled soloist for these performances, Hilary Hahn, has withdrawn as she is expecting a baby. Ms. Gomyo previously performed with the CSO in 2004 at Riverbend Music Center; this will be her Music Hall debut with the CSO.

Tonight, April 30 at the Kennedy Center Terrace Theater, and Friday May 2 at Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall, Opera Lafayette begins its commemoration of the 250th anniversary of Jean-Philippe Rameau's death with Celebrating Rameau Part One: The Salon, a program devoted to the great composer's vocal and instrumental chamber works. French harpsichordist Olivier Baumont, professor at the Paris Conservatoire, is featured in a solo suite, joins violinist and artistic director Ryan Brown and viola da gambist Kenneth Slowik in one of the composer's Pièces de clavecin en concert, and performs transcriptions from Les Indes Galantes with harpsichordist Andrew Appel. Sopranos Gaële Le Roi and Kelly Ballou, and baritone David Newman, join to perform the lively Canons and Airs published in the composer's historic Treatise on Harmony.

The Cleveland Orchestra has announced its 2014-15 season. Music Director Franz Welser-Möst's programs include Bach's Mass in B minor, and Brahms's Piano Concertos with Yefim Bronfman as soloist. Mr. Welser-Möst continues his long-standing tradition of opera performances at Severance Hall with concert performances of Richard Strauss's rarely heard opera Daphne.
