Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater will produce the first in-the-round staging of Ruined, the 2009 Pulitzer Prize winner for drama by Arena Stage Project Resident Lynn Nottage and directed by Resident Playwright Charles Randolph-Wright (Director of Arena Stage's Duke Ellington's Sophisticated Ladies). Ruined is the stirring tale of Mama Nadi, a mother figure loosely based on Bertolt Brecht's Mother Courage and Her Children, who provides refuge for women affected by civil war ravaging the Democratic Republic of Congo. The production features an expanded company with cast members playing live music and additional ensemble roles featuring University of Maryland students. Ruined runs April 22-June 5, 2011 in the Fichandler Stage.

The Tony Award-winning Old Globe will host its annual Gala on Saturday, August 1, in celebration of the world premiere musical The First Wives Club. The event is co-chaired by Sandra Redman and Debra Turner and is the Globe's largest annual fundraiser, celebrating the achievements of the year as well as supporting the institution's education programs.

San Jose Repertory Theatre roars into the new year with the Regional Premiere of A Picasso (Barrymore Award for Best New Play), a provocative play by one of America's most widely produced playwrights, Jeffrey Hatcher. Jonathan Moscone, Artistic Director of California Shakespeare Theater, directs this smart and sexy exploration of art, politics and censorship. A Picasso runs January 24 - February 22, 2009 at San Jose Repertory Theatre, 101 Paseo de San Antonio in downtown San Jose. Preview performances are January 24, 25, 28, and 29. Since 1997, when she performed in The Play House production of (I Could) Stop On a Dime and Get Ten Cents Change, Williams has also played in several Broadway national tours and performed her gospel music all over the world.
